Duck Regatta, September 1

"Working for the Rubber Duck Regatta in order to help support Freestore Foodbank was a very positive experience for me. During this experience I got to witness such an eye-opening event, raising enough money to provide about half a million meals to fight the battle against hunger. This event made me realize how simple acts, such as buying a duck, can help support those who struggle to find proper nourishment. Also, doing this service helped me learn a valuable life skill for sales. I learned some tips and tricks on how to best advertise and sell a product while out in public. Overall, I learned a lot from this act of service and will definitely be looking to do similar acts in the future."

"This event was very entertaining. I enjoyed being downtown and witnessing a city tradition. I got to be with my friends and explore the event while still doing the service. We sold plenty of cards and helped collect money for Freestore. I will never forget the experience."

-Jackson Geiser

"I enjoyed volunteering in the fundraising for the 2019 Rubber Duck Regatta. The money we raised by selling the rubber ducks went to the Freestore Foodbank to provide meals for hungry people in the Tri-State. It was a great experience to be able to make a direct impact on people in our communities. Also, I had the opportunity to meet and speak with some of the people who put lots of time and effort into running the event. Overall, it was a special experience for me, and I look to forward to participating in the event again."

-Ethan Meyer

"During my second service activity with the Why Not? Service Group, I was given the opportunity to help the community in various ways. For this service day, my friends and I were given the job to sell rubber ducks for the duck drop that is ran by Freestore Foodbank. Every duck I sold was worth fifteen meals that could be fed to starving families, especially children. Knowing that I was making such an impact on the community meant so much to me, and I would love to do it again."

-William Doepker

"Selling the ducks at the Rubber Duck Regatta was a rewarding experience because it allowed us to get out of our comfort zone in a few ways. We were in the midst of a punk/rock culture--something none of us were really used to being around--which allowed us dismiss any judgments or prejudices many people could have. This paid off because it was actually a neat crowd to talk to and try to sell ducks to. Selling the ducks also helped us work on our marketing and advertising skills, but the underlying cause of it all--the feeding of thousands of children--was what made succeeding in our sales efforts meaningful."

-Aidan Corey

"This event allowed me to participate in a huge event giving aid to the hungry in our community and beyond. Getting to sell the ducks allowed me to really meet the great people donating their hard earned money to help those in need. One thing I noticed is that there is no certain age, gender, or race to donating for a good cause. It was extremely cool to see people from all walks of life in Cincinnati coming together for a greater cause."
