Advent Sandwich Packing, December 8

"I always enjoy participating in this event with my family every year. My mom is the one who helped start it and continues to run it, so it holds a special place in my heart. Sandwich making has helped make me more aware of the things in my life that I often take for granted, such as having a reliable source of food and a roof over my head. In helping with this event, I come to realize how blessed I truly am to have these basic necessities meet and am made more aware that there are those in my own community who do not have these things. Sandwich making gives me an opportunity to help those less fortunate in our own city of Cincinnati, to try to uplift them and give them hope when they might not always have it. It has helped teach me the value of giving back to others over the years and has been an event for me that has made me fall in love with service."

"This event was particularly neat because my friend's mom is the one who runs this every year, and she told her son to ask my service group to help them. I was enlightened by this because I like how the Why Not? service group has become a reliable source in helping people in need. The event gave me another opportunity to feed the hungry, which is something I have always valued doing. In essence, the chance to do things like this is the reason I started Why Not? because I realize that my work is making a difference for those who were not blessed in the way I was. Since it was truly by chance that I was born into family in which I was, I feel it is necessary to help people who cannot help themselves as effectively, and the Christmas season offers a great chance to do so."
