In partnership with the community based transitions program at the school district, they send food home each Friday with students selected by their school counselors, nurses, teachers, etc. These funds go toward providing needed food supplies that are part of the weekly bags going home with students.

Each year the Wilkeson Eagles responds to 15-20 requests for assistance to families during the holidays. This assistance takes the form of food support as well as gifts and needs to make holidays a joyous time for all.

Community Presbyterian Church provides weekend meals for the White River School District from kindergarten through high school. They cover the 40 weeks of school, sending food home each Friday with students selected by their school counselors, nurses, teachers, etc. During the pandemic, they were asked to cover every weekend throughout the year. Additionally, the number of students experiencing food insecurity increased, doubling the number of students participating in their program. The program leaders have developed a partnership with the Transitions program within the school district, allowing students in that program to practice job based skills they will be able to use in the future.

Plateau Outreach Ministries (POM) is the only agency providing comprehensive emergency social services to rural areas including the communities of Buckley, Burnett, Carbonado, Enumclaw, South Prairie, and Wilkeson. This grant will continue to build on the outreach they have been doing into the White River community, offering their Samaritan Project which helps provide wrap-around services like food, clothing, voucher assistance, financial counseling, connections to outside resources, and support for community in immediate crisis. These services allow those receiving support to focus their own resources on finding or maintaining stable housing first.

The Rainier Foothills Wellness Foundation Care Van helps fill this gap by providing free rides to anyone needing transportation to the local hospital, pharmacies, local medical offices including physicians, dentists, optometrists, chiropractors, and therapists. The Care Van operates Monday through Friday 8:30AM -4:30PM providing door to door transportation for health related appointments accommodating any age or mobility.

White River Community Outreach offer assistance for families, seniors and individuals of all ages as well as with the local homeless population. Their goal is to come along side people in time of need and help guide them in the right direction with resources. They assist with budgeting, goal setting and referrals. Monthly they help pay for utilities, rent, propane, hotel rooms and gas. All White River Community Outreach clients have access free hygiene and cleaning supplies. They also provide basic needs like socks, shoes, coats and warm clothing. They have sleeping bags and tents for our homeless population if needed. Throughout the year they provide school supplies, diapers, wipes, blankets, hats, gloves, Christmas and birthday presents. Above all else their goal is also to provide encouragement and love to each of their clients.
White River Native American Education Program - $ 750
The Native American Education Program serves American Indian/Alaska Native students K-12. This is a Title VI Indian Education Program funded by a grant that is renewed yearly. This grant only provides for my position 24 hours per week. Any educational opportunities, classes, projects, participation in programming that furthers our Native student's growth, is dependent on outside funding for transportation, materials, Native artists/experts. Providing our Native students with hands on opportunities and in-person experiences is based on Culture Based Education research, it is how our Native learners learn best.
Donald Loomis Memorial Clothing Bank - $ 500
The Donald Loomis Memorial Clothing Bank helps people in need of basics of clothing and school supplies to ease their burden. Providing this opportunity allows children to be more confident in school, able to go in the first day with new shoes and nice clothes as well as all their school supplies. They are provided with clothing throughout the school year - a coat, gloves, hat, and scarf when it's cold, shoes for PE, and so much more Adults feel confident when going on job interviews and in their daily lives because they have the clothing they need that makes them feel like their best self. Babies and toddlers have clothes that fit their fast growing bodies. This program impacts as many as 700 people a year.
Beautify Buckley - $ 1,000
Beautify Buckley is an annual community clean-up and beautification event in Buckley, WA. There are multiple volunteer projects throughout the city that all ages can participate in. It is a great event that lets everyone participate in making our city welcoming and lovely, as well as bringing the community together to strengthen relationships around a common goal.
Buckley Youth Activity Board - $ 3,000
The Buckley Youth Center provides year-round programming for the youth of our community. These funds will be part of a project to build a covered outdoor shelter in partnership with the City of Buckley. Having a covered outdoor shelter will enable staff to provide a variety of classes and other activities for youth during spring and fall months. This would include arts/craft, science, music and even dance classes. It could also be used for small group performances for youth. This shelter gives the center additional programming space during summer months when attendance is at it's highest.
Community Presbyterian Church - $7,000
Community Presbyterian Church serves students in the White River School District from kindergarten through high school. They cover the 40 weeks of school, sending food home each Friday with students selected by their school counselors, nurses, teachers, etc. The WRSD currently has 26% on the free and reduced food program, approximately 1100 students. We currently serve 90 students each week at a cost of about $5.50 per child per weekend. They were approached by our ECEAP program about adding their little ones. ECEAP serves 40 students, all 4 and 5 years old. All would quality for the free and reduced food program so the backpack program will increase by 45%.

White River Education Foundation - $1,000
This grant fully funded a field trip for all White River School District Kindergartners to go to Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium! This field trip to the zoo allowed all kindergarten students to experience numerous animals and aquatic life, allowing for all students to acquire the same knowledge. These kindergartners (and all students!) learn from real life experiences. This trip will allow them to see first hand animals in their habitats, various types of plants, as well as touch and hold aquatic life. ***For some students, this was their first time to the zoo.***
White River Senior Services - $6,000
White River Senior Services provides housing and support to low income Seniors in the White River community. They will use this grant to clear land connected to their current Senior living community in order to build a vegetable garden and additional housing units. With high demand for affordable Senior housing and a need for nearby access to fresh produce, preparing this land for the build is the first step in filling an important need for this community.
Foothills Historical Society - $5,000
The Foothills Historical Society and Museum is dedicated to the discovery, preservation, and dissemination of the history of the City of Buckley and the surrounding area. Foothills plans to use the grant to upgrade lighting to a LED cable lighting system in the main room of the museum to give visitors a better experience. Antique ceiling fixtures only give general lighting, currently leaving many exhibit areas unlit. New developments in White River are bringing in families who are eager to become involved in their community and learn about the area’s history.
