Driver’s Permit Policy 2022

WHHS Students & Parents,

The DMV requires verification of school attendance and grades in order for students to get their Driver’s Permit. WHHS will verify this information and create a letter for our students to take to the DMV. Below is how that process will work.

Students must complete Driver’s Permit Request Form online. The form can be found on this page, and is also available on the WHHS Website if you have issues with the link above.

Letters for the DMV WILL NOT be generated on the same day the request form is turned in.

Students will be able to pick up the letter they need for the DMV on:

Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am to 1 pm in the Main Building Office.

The school office will be CLOSED from June 29th - July 3rd

Once the letter is created, it is good for the remainder of the summer. (August 1st)

Students must be on track for graduation and have less than 10 unexcused absences for the previous completed semester.

Further information concerning items needed for a TN Learner Permit can be found at the link below:

The following is from TN Dept. of Driver Services:

“Applicants under the age of 18 must prove they are enrolled in school and making satisfactory progress. If a student fails to make satisfactory academic progress, the school is required to notify the Department of Safety. This suspends the student’s driving privileges. The first time a student drops out, he or she may regain the privilege to drive by returning to school and making satisfactory academic progress. There is no second chance, however. The second time a student drops out he or she must wait to turn 18 years old before being eligible.”

Sincerely,

-WHHS Administration
