This is the first edition of the Prize of Philosophy of Switzerland. The prize will be awarded every two years, recognizing the best works in philosophy from the country. It is open to all areas of philosophy and to anyone from Switzerland. Professors and students of philosophy are all welcome, but also academics of any field, as well as non universitary people. Professors and students of philosophy are all welcome, but also academics from any field, as well as non-university people.
The aim of this prize is to promote philosophy by articulating conceptual unity and thematic plurality, fostering dialogue among different philosophical traditions and encouraging metaphilosophical reflection on definition, explanation, and rational analysis, without excluding the use of metaphors, analogies, and aporias. Faced with the growing fragmentation of contemporary philosophy, marked by excessive specialization and the loss of communication among its different areas, it becomes necessary to recover a structuring question capable of integrating different fields without reducing them. The question from which philosophy originated with Socrates and Plato — “What is it?” (ti esti) — functions, in this sense, as a transversal methodological core for the development of understanding.
This prize is organized jointly with the World Philosophical Congress What is it? That’s the Question! , held every two years in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
