I was a member of Weymouth Chess Club in the 1970s and early 80s, gave up for 20 years or so due to family commitments and moving away, and re-joined Weymouth in around 2010 after a few years at the Bridport Chess Club.
My chess claim to fame is that I beat England’s strongest Grandmaster some years ago in a tournament in Woolacombe in Devon………………he was only about 7 or 8 years old but you could see that he was a strong player even then!!
My other chess claim is that I played Sergei Karjakin twice in a simultaneous in London around 20 years ago. At the time he was the youngest grandmaster in the world and I decided to surprise him by playing the Grob as black in both games. Needless to say he easily beat me in about 30 moves in the first game…………….I didn’t learn form that defeat and he promptly dispatched me in about 20 moves in the second game!!
He probably felt that I had disrespected him by playing such an opening!! 😊
