The Weymouth Chess Club provides opportunities for players of all playing strengths to play both social and competitive chess in a friendly setting.
The club encourages beginners and novices to improve through training given by more experienced club players. and believes that the more a player understands the game the more they will appreciate this beautiful artistic game at it's highest level.
The club meets every Tuesday night in the Cafe at Redlands Leisure and Community Centre on the Dorchester Road, Weymouth at 7pm. Being a seaside town the club only meets from the start of September until the end of April each year. A beginners, improvers lesson takes place from 7pm to around 7:40pm on the same evening where informal tuition is available.
The club runs two internal competitions through the chess season - Joe Anderson handicapped KO and a club championship All Play All. The club is affiliated to the Dorset Chess Association and has teams in Division 1, 2 and 3 of the Dorset Chess League and participates in the popular B&DCL Team Handicap KO competition and the start of season Dorchester Jamboree.
Tea/Coffee facilities are available though we do ask that a small contribution is made.
The Cafe is on the ground floor so wheel chair access is no problem.
There is no bar at the Sports Centre and alcohol is not permitted to be brought into the club.
