Joe Anderson Memorial Knockout

Rules


1) The tournament will be run as a time handicap knockout competition using ECF grades from the beginning of the year (September). All subscribing members of the Weymouth Chess Club are elligible to enter.

 

2) All games will last for a maximum of 90 minutes. This will allow a replay of a drawn game on the same evening if both players so wish. In the event of two drawn games the match will be awarded to the player with a lower grade.

 

3) A random draw will be made by the Tournament controller and witnessed by a member of the club.

 

4) The first named player in the draw will have the white pieces. In the event of a draw colours will be reversed for the replay.

 

5) The ECF rules for Quick play will apply.

7) Where the difference in rating is 541+ points the higher graded player must win at the first attempt to progress to the next round, even if this is the final of the tournament.

 

8) Ungraded players will be provided a provisional grade by the tournament controller, subject to amendment, unless there is previously known information about their playing strength.

 

9) The tournament will continue to be run as a knock-out with a random draw for each round made by the tournament controller and witnessed by another member of the club.

 

10)  Deadline dates for each round must be strictly adhered to. The controller is empowered to default any competitor who fails to complete his game in time without due reason.

 

11)  An illegal move by a player will result in their opponent gaining an extra two minutes on the clock.
