Church records are an invaluable resource for the research you are doing on enslaved people. Because most were not literate, they did not leave many records. In West Hartford, the church kept track of births, deaths, marriages, baptisms, commitments to marry, and membership in the church. All of the entries here are from the West Hartford church - the Fourth Congregational Church of Hartford, now the First Congregational Church of West Hartford.
