1. Nagoya University ID

When student ID is issued, the Nagoya University ID will be provided and notification of its password will be made in the Password Notification for the Nagoya University ID.


2. NU Wifi/password

Take the online training otherwise your ID could be locked.

You can use the NU ID and password for connecting NU Wifi (Wifi name: nuwnet/ nuwnet 1x etc.)

Please do not forget the password; otherwise you may get in trouble

3. Security Self-Inspection

Take the online inspection course every year, when you have not taken Yearly Information Security Check, your Nagoya University ID will be unusable.

Please do it as soon as possible not to be forgotten.

4. Creating NU Mail & Forwarding to your favorite email

"University-wide email service" is a service that provides email addresses that can be used while members of Nagoya University (students, faculty, etc.) are enrolled at Nagoya University. The e-mail address is USERID@*.mbox.nagoya-u.ac.jp (* Is an alphabet such as 'a' or 'b')

Security updates will be performed once a month at 18:30. The service will be stopped for a few minutes when the OS is restarted.

"University-wide email service" has more trustful for job hunting or other situations as it is the proof of enrolling the university.

You should forward "University-wide email" to your favorite email address. Important messages from university will be sent to your NU mail. Do not miss it!!!

5. Course Planning & Registration

  1. Course planning

Fill the form of "Course plan for master program" and send it to your supervisor before deadline date (*Check GSES Latest Information). Don't forget to consult your advisor to select an "associate advisor" for you study.

When course registration starts, Login to NU Portal for students -> Student affairs ->

Course registration, enter course name or course code to search and register your courses.

  1. Research planning

Fill the form of "Research plan for master program", including your research topic and introduction of your prospective research plan.

Tutors are supposed to provide extracurricular coaching on a personal level for new students. In addition, the tutor can also act as a “senpai”, which means “an older, more experienced friend”, who can help the new international student form networks and friendships which is helpful for academic and general life at Nagoya University.

Who can receive tutor support?

GSES international students for the first year after admission & 30 hours/semester.

What will you get it from tutor system?

    • Academic Assistance

    • Supplementary Assistance (university related administrative procedures, official documents, and open a bank, help with search for housing, buying essential items after arrival/only emergency needs, accompany tutees to the hospital/only emergency)

    • Learning/improving your Japanese language

Tips for your study with tutor

    • Think and tell what you need to get tutor support

    • The opportunity to correct Japanese is not so many opportunities in daily life, then asking correction of speaking Japanese is good way to improve language skills.

    • Choose the topic beforehand (it is sometimes difficult to find topics in tutoring sessions). If you prepare in advance, it will make your time more effectively during the tutoring session.

7. Visa Renewal (Please click here and read carefully!!)

If you hold a "College Student" resident status with particular period of stay and you wish to remain in Japan after its expiration, you must apply for an extension at the Nagoya Regional Immigration Bureau. Application for extension can be done 3 months before the date of expiration, so be sure to file for the application of extension as early as possible so as to avoid any inconvenience.

Application procedures and necessary documents

1. Application form for extension of period of stay (College Student)

2. One photo (4cm×3cm)

3. Valid Passport and Residence Card

4. Certificate of university enrollment (showing expected period of study) and Official academic transcript

5. 4,000 yen revenue stamp (available at the Immigration Bureau)

6. Documents showing that the applicant has sufficient resources for application. Please check the details in the module of "Procedure"-> "VISA".


*Noted : Please attach a Japanese translation when materials are written in foreign languages
  • Copying images or writing from a website without permission

  • Plagiarizing or entirely copying the scholarship or research work of another author

  • Completing an assignment or taking an examination for somebody else
