Over the last few months there have been multiple protests about people who feel their voices have not been heard and/or protests from people who feel others are speaking out of context or without understanding of a bigger picture. Although many people have said that protests are not happening/ relevant in Canada or Alberta or Calgary.... last week, students across Calgary Catholic Schools walked out of classes to demand anti-racism training for staff.
Read the following twitter feed that describes a discussion in a grade 9 class that considered, "Why do peaceful protests sometimes turn violent?"
1) Reflect upon the tweets above. Consider the following questions as you prepare for your personal response. What did you first think about as you read the tweets? Which tweets did you agree or disagree with and why? What are your thoughts about using social media to learn with and why? What are your thoughts about the students asking to discuss protests and the teacher being open to discussing the topic in an open forum at the end of his class? Did you feel that the discussion was appropriate or inappropriate - why?
