Actors and directors will collaborate to stage, perform, and film a virtual production of short plays written by STUDENTS! Writers will improve their skills and perfect their scripts, and directors and actors bring their short plays to life in a collection of staged readings.
Here are some fun moments from the 2020 production of PENCILED-IN, the Thespian Writers Workshop performance.
Penciled-In is a program for students currently enrolled in grades 9-12 within the Waukee School District. No previous theatre experience is necessary!
Rehearsals will begin as soon the casting process is finished. It is then up to the directors to create rehearsals for their scene. You can participate as a Writer, Director, Actor, or a combination of all three!
WRITERS: Writers will create and submit EITHER a high school appropriate (PG-13) 10-minute script with 2-5 characters, OR a high school appropriate (PG-13) 1-2 page monologue. Writers cannot direct or act in their own piece.
DIRECTORS: Directors will be assigned a script and actors, and they will be in charge of scheduling and leading rehearsals. In preparation of the performance, you will give a brief introduction to your play, and many receive questions and/or feedback at the Q&A session
ACTORS: Actors will be asked to attend a couple of rehearsals each week. They will bring the scenes to life through performance!
Registration is closed. Check back next year!
