Virtual water is the term used to describe the indirect uses of water. Virtual water is the water used to produce certain products we use every day, like food and water.
Facts about water in food production
Dairy and meat products use the most water.
A regular burger requires 2000L of water to make.
It takes 2500L of water to make 100 grams of cheese.
It takes 140L of water to make one cup of coffee.
15,000L of water is needed to make 1kg of steak.
Facts about virtual water used to make clothes
It takes 11,000L of water to make one pair of jeans!
A regular t-shirt requires 2700L of water to produce.
The average pair of shoes uses 8500L of water to produce.
The average pair of undies requires 1000L of water to make.
