To be able to - interpret and gather information from climate graphs
what is a climate graph?
A climate graph is a graph that shows the average temperature of a place per month using a line graph and how much precipitation that place receives per month over a year using a bar graph.A climate graph is made up of a line graph (for temperature) and a bar graph (for precipitation).
temperature is shown as a line graph
The temperature is shown as a line graph, the line is always coloured red. The axis is on the left hand side.
(Sometimes there are two lines, one showing the maximum temperature and one showing the minimum temperature)
precipitation is shown as a bar graph
Precipitation is always shown as a bar graph, the line is always coloured blue. The axis is on the right hand side.
Precipitation is any form of moisture (rain, hail or snow) that comes from the atmosphere.
You can tell what hemisphere a place is in by looking at that place's climate graph.
Southern Hemisphere = high rainfall and temperatures in the summer, low temperatures in winter. Winter months are June, July and August. Summer months are December, January and February.
Northern Hemisphere = high temperatures and rainfall in the summer, low temperatures in winter. There are more popular cities where it snows in Winter than in the Southern hemisphere. Winter months are December, January and February. Summer months are June, July and August.
let's do this one together as an example
What is the rainfall for June?
What was the average temperature for October?
What was the monthly rainfall for October?
What was the average temperature for December?
What hemisphere is Grafton in?
