Recreation means time spent doing activities for fun. In Australia, so many of our activities we do for fun involve the water. People who live close to the coast go to the beach. People who live near rivers kayak and ski. Fishing is popular in Australia as well.
Water is important for in religions and across different cultures.
First Nations Peoples have managed aquatic environments through songlines and totems for tens of thousands of years.
Water is an important symbol in Christianity. For example, water is used in Baptism as a symbol of life.
For people, water has an economic value. Bodies of water can be used to make money.
90% of global trade is due to cargo ships, so harbours and ports are important places.
Some businesses and industries rely on water for income, like the fishing industry.
