This was the first episode Vince Gilligan directed.
Great pleasure to hear some french and learn things about 15th century France ! And of course, the title is also french !
Maybe Jenn has a very frenchy character: in France we have a bad reputation of being complainers, arrogant, and more. Well, Jenn is unhappy. Hopefully, Mulder will deliver her, she deserves it !
Mulder is trying to come up with a perfectly worded wish that will solve all the problems of the world, and Scully reminds him that maybe the point of our lives is to achieve that, not have it handed to us. Mulder knows she's right.
I love the moral in the end: the whole point of our lifes is to be fairly happy, and to make people around us to be fairly happy.
I'm fairly happy to do this project Across the Ocean with Cathy ! Cheers, Cathy !
They're so in sync they copy each other's hand gestures!
I like to imagine that Scully is visualizing the case Mulder is speaking of -huge priapism- , and is thinking that, well, hopefully, even if Mulder is.... OK I stop there, it is getting out of hand, so to speak.
When Scully starts to question whether Anson Stokes was really invisible, Mulder just groans "Ohhhhh." That's 7 years of pent up frustration right there!
Scully and her invisible man, oh my !
Though, it was hard to choose the funniest moment, heartbreaking.
Mulder realizes he gets three wishes.
Anson coming back from the dead. Vince Gilligan, where did you find that silly, crazy idea ?
BTW, the dumb Stokes brothers are completely hilarious.
Mulder hums the theme song from I Dream of Jeannie, a classic American sitcom.
I put away the TV/movies american cultural references, to point at a thing which always intigued me: trailer parks.
We don't have such places in France, at least to leave in permanently. We have also mobile homes parks, but essentially for holidays uses.
I would want to know all the sociological aspects of american trailer parks : Who lives here ? Only "poor people" ? Do you find them everywhere in the country ? Since when ? The Great Depression ? After WWII ? Why ? Do people own their mobile homes ? Are they rentals ? etc, etc...
"I'm fairly happy. That's something."
That's everything.
Yep, "Mankind is cursed by stupidity". How many times in a day do we witness that ?
Yep, I can include myself.
Mulder uses his third wish to grant the genie's freedom. He was trying from the first wish to be altruistic and finally found the way to do it.
I love all along the scene where Mulder gets and uses his 3 wishes.
He kills me when he wants peace on Earth, then finds that he's alone and calls Scully in the desert streets; he kills me when he wants to be very smart, writing a law-type wish; I'm dead when he's caught in Skinner's office !
Scully is so excited to find an invisible man. Finally she has proof! Poor Scully...it won't last long.
Scully and her invisible man, oh my !
Gillian Anderson is killing me.
Scully is able to ask Mulder what's going on just with her facial expressions and gestures. Mulder was right in Detour--they have "communication like that, unspoken."
I linked immediately this episode to "All Things": the famous green sweater, the end scene on the couch.
These episodes match perfectly, and we know why Scully is fairly happy here: it's because she knows what will happen after watching Caddyschack !
This episode is filled with the most adorable MSR of any episode ever. Mulder and Scully are completely enjoying each other throughout. They smile, they tease, they touch. I think maybe there's been a change in their relationship...ahem.
I love the guest stars. Paula Sorge and Will Sasso are both very funny, and their scenes together crack me up every time ("A solid gold wheelchair!")
And the final scene with Mulder and Scully just hanging out, watching a movie, drinking beer, could be a perfect place to leave them. They're happy, they're together. What more could we want?
The episode is a master piece. It's all.
All the actors are amazing.
I add that I adore seeing joyful and bantering M&S. When you think at the next episode, Requiem... It gives me chills.
Just this one thing.
The episode is already finished ! I would have wanted more !
The end scenes would have lasted longer: more M&S discussing casually on the couch, more Jenn enjoying simple pleasures of life. Just to prolong the happy mood.
Cathy, you have said it perfectly: "This episode is filled with the most adorable MSR of any episode ever."
Cathy, the whole world will now know that we are complete shippers...
I'm fairly happy doing this project with you too!
We all know what will happen after they watch Caddy Shack ;)
I don't think there's ever been any doubt that we're shippers...but we certainly can't deny it now :)
This was such a fun episode to rewatch with you Isabelle!
