It's ironic that the transport driver is attacked by a giant worm next to a sign advertising "live bait."
Wait, what ? Mulder with a nice working bag ? Oh yeah... because he couldn't put the jar with the fluke in his jacket...
A combination of two scenes: Mulder tells Scully he's thinking of leaving the FBI, because if he can't work with her there's no reason to stay. Then later Scully tells Mulder she would consider it more than a professional loss if he left.
Oh, the feelings.... I could watch them together, arguing about silly cases, endlessly.
Scully starts to argue with Mulder's theory and then laughs, saying it felt like old times for a second. The looks on both their faces as they cherished that moment and each other was priceless.
Just at the beginning of this wonderful scene between Mulder and Scully: "Close the door". There is nobody around, nothing confidential in the case, but Scully wants intimacy. Nice touch in the script, Chris Carter !
I find it funny that Scully is hidden behind desks and tables and within large coats throughout the episode, to hide Gillian Anderson's pregnancy.
I don't know why, but this scene is very funny for me, and I can't believe that the Flukeman is moving in the pipe. It's just a shaken conduit and a movement of the camera. Or a big elephant trunk !
Mulder's call from a new informant, a "friend at the FBI"
Gross !
Mulder and Scully meeting in front of the Washington Monument
X Files learned me the meaning of the name "John Doe".
In France, we might say "Monsieur X" ! Funny when you think that Mister X appears for the first time in this episode.
"Success in your current assignment is imperative...reinstatement of the X-Files must be undeniable."
The case is really silly, when you think of it.
Mulder tells Skinner he and Scully could have prevented further deaths, but the X-Files have been shut down.
Mulder was very lukewarm on the case from the beginning. But, in the end, action Mulder is back ! Risking is life, tainting his clothes, infecting his body, in order to save a man and stop the Flukeman. It's how I like my Mulder !
Scully is persistent in investigating, because she believes they can find answers, and it's a way to continue working with Mulder.
In fact, all the scenes with Scully are great Scully moments. I choose this one because she always wants to investigate when there are victims, no matter the case is paranomal or not. And it's how she can keep working with Mulder.
At the very end the Flukeman, who everyone thought was dead, comes back out of the water. This made me think of the last scene of My Struggle IV, when William/Jackson pops out of the water after everyone thinks he's dead. Scully says of the Flukeman, "Nature didn't make this thing. We did." That could apply to William as well.
I can't help to make links with the episode Roadrunners: Gillian Anderson pregnant versus Scully pregnant, baby flukes in livers versus Jesus slug in spines, disguting scenes in both episodes !
I like that Mulder and Scully want to work together, and they're still such a strong team.
I like that we see some progression in Skinner's character. He lets Mulder know that he values Mulder's work on the X-Files, but he had to follow orders and shut them down.
I like the introduction of a new informant, someone on Mulder's side who wants the X-Files reopened.
I like the fact that Skinner is behind, protecting the X Files.
I like Mulder pissed off and thinking is treated as crap by the FBI.
I like how Scully support Mulder, and how they are still a team.
I don't really enjoy watching horror, and there's plenty of it in this episode. I recognize that it's well done, but after all these years I still have to watch some scenes with my hands covering my eyes!
Really, the Flukeman will deliver itself and kill the poor driver, which is let alone with a dangerous bizarre murderer ? The plot is silly here !!
At least, it leads to the funny porta-potty scene.
We complete each other, it's cool ! I also wanted to pick up the Washington Monument, the way Scully is hidden, Scully's quote "I'd consider it more than a professional loss if you decided to leave". So many interesting things !
Great link to William, I wouldn't have think of that. My first idea for this item was also to find a link based on the line you pointed at : "Nature didn't make this thing. We did." (I like it)
And thanks to made me understand the joke with "live bait" !
Last but not least: I'm not covering my eyes when I watch The Host, I find the gross scenes funny !
Your MSR moment is wonderful! Nice catch!
Fun to learn about "Monsieur X"
Such a great parallel between The Host and Roadrunners!
It was fun to see how many similar answers we had in this one.
