Historical Analysis

This essay explores the overlooked wartime experiences that Ukranian women have encountered throughout history, including during the current Russo-Ukrainian War. Using the oral histories found on this website, Skylar Painter analyzes common themes and motifs found threaded throughout the multiple interviews. These themes include a heightened concern for family, a desire to return to Ukraine if displaced, as well as hopes for a brighter future for Ukrainian youth. These recurring themes culminate to create aspects often ignored during the study of war: the female experience.
