Washington State Gleaning Network Kickoff Meeting

Feburary 22, 2023

Today, we introduced ourselves and discussed the USDA grant that makes this gleaning network project possible. We also reviewed Washington state's current goals for food waste reduction and discussed what we hope to achieve in future meetings.

March 16, 2023

 In this month's meeting we discussed some important networking principles, including the concept of trust, and we did a little activity where we were able to meet with folks one on one and dig into not only our goals but our struggles within our organizations and lives.

April 13, 2023

 In this month's meeting we met Theresa Snow from Salvation Farms who represents the Vermont Gleaning Collective--a working gleaning network within Vermont. She took a deep look at the ins and outs of their state-wide gleaning network.

May 11, 2023

 In this month's meeting we met with Nicki Ross at Table 2 Table in Iowa, representing their state-wide network. She took a deep look at the struggles and wins of building their state-wide gleaning network with lessons learned in growing a gleaning network from the ground up.

Washington State Gleaning Network June Meeting

June 08, 2023

     In June's meeting we met with network professional, Jane Wei-Skillern, who gave us a chance to consider networks on a deeper, ethical level. She talked about network principles and the concept of Constellations, Not Stars. We took a deeper look at how the strength of the network we build is only as strong as the relationships built.

Washington State Gleaning Network July Meeting

July 13th, 2023

     In this month's meeting we discussed our Why, with an understanding that our Why is integral to not only inspire loyalty and engagement but also be a guide to direct every decision that we make, moving forward. As a group, we also got a chance to think through some ways we can begin to collaborate. Finally, we took a poll on what discussion topic to address at our next meeting.

Washington State Gleaning Network October Meeting

October 12th, 2023

     We began this month’s meeting by sharing five initial findings that we think are key to think on while we begin brainstorming the structure of this network. We then considered the general barriers and strengths that our organizations face and realized that some some of our barriers are others’ strengths. In many ways we are more than the sum of our parts when we come together.

November 9th, 2023

     In this meeting we began to consider how our Why's could become How's. We discussed the 3 Whys: Organizational Sustainability, Bridging the Divide and telling our Shared Story and begin to brainstorm solutions.

January 11, 2024

     This month, we had a great chat with the folks from Boston Area Gleaners about their incredibly efficient food distribution infrastructure.

Washington State Gleaning Network February Meeting

February 8th, 2024

     This month’s meeting focused on sharing results from the Task Groups that have been in place for the last few months. Each of these groups was tasked with coming up with a variety of plans that would help to bridge the geographic and resource divide, provide sustainability to organizations and help create a vision for this network, going forward.

March 14, 2024

     In this meeting we reviewed changes to the vision statement, gave recap of details from the Network Vision & Structure Task Group and discussed tangible content for engagement.

Washington State Gleaning Network April Meeting

April 11, 2024

     This meeting was full of productive discussion on how an advisory committee might look and function and beginning to consider how meetings will transition to providing content to support gleaners, as we move forward. We shared a recap of the work the Network Vision & Structure Task Group has been doing. And we also introduced the Good Food Forum platform and announced our upcoming Q&A meeting with their organization.
