Organizational Sustainability Kickoff Meeting

Sustainability of knowledge: When a person who runs a gleaning program leaves, the program often dies - especially when progress or learnings are not able to be passed on.

We had some awesome conversations today, re-touching on some topics from the previous meeting and digging deeper. Some of those conversations included:
Announcing the beginning of the Okanogan Gleaning Network
The logistics involved with distribution issues such as sharing resources, staff or volunteer capacity and collaborative opportunities
Considering area-specific representative "hubs" that could not only share resources but also food, funding, knowledge sharing, group gleans, sharing food, sharing staff, etc.

This is the kick off meeting in December 2023 for the Network Vision & Structure Task Group. In this meeting we began to brainstorm some great ideas on how this network could be structured.

We had some incredibly productive conversation about vision statements and came up with a few fantastic drafts. These drafts will be shared for feedback in the next monthly network meeting.

This meeting's agenda involved picking a vision statement and discussing why, as well as beginning to brainstorm future housing options for the network.

February 12, 2024
In this meeting we revised the vision statement, based on network feedback. And we began to consider how a foundational structure could embody the needs and ideas laid out by the other Task Groups.

In this meeting we continued our conversation around a facilitator role as an option for housing the network and discussed how we might utilize community connection and regional hubs to bring us all together.

In this meeting we began to dig more into obstacles we may face as a network and resources we think will be key to creating a network that serves and connects gleaners within our communities and the broader state.

April 9th, 2024
In today's meeting we discussed what value an advisory committee would add and what role responsibility could look like. We also introduced the Good Food Forum platform and discussed its value as not only a collaborative platform but also, if it becomes a useful tool, a big success for the WGN, keeping in mind our Task Group goals.
