Are you wondering what the USS VERMONT Ship's Whistle sounds like? Click above, and imagine it 19 times! It's easier to find the U.S. Navy Band's "Anchors Aweigh" or Frank Sinatra's "Moonlight in Vermont" if you'd like to experience all of the music played as part of the ceremony.
The Pre-Commissioning Unit (PCU) VERMONT hats were laid to rest at the end of the on-board, Crew only ceremony on Saturday morning as our sailors donned their new coyote brown USS VERMONT ball caps.
The image above is the patch given to each Crew member of the USS VERMONT from Sponsor Gloria Valdez. Gloria was there with the Crew in spirit, and along with her husband Tim, said a special prayer for their safety followed by a toast in honor of all the hard work over almost 6 years culminating with the delivery of the VERMONT by Electric Boat on April 17th and the Commissioning of the USS VERMONT on April 18th.
A hand carved replica of the USS VERMONT donated by Calais sculptor Chris Miller. It was made from a remnant of the mahogany used by Chris from his sculpting of Ceres that sits atop the State House in Montpelier. See more about the carving on the link to WCAX's coverage on our "In the News" page.
A portrait of the USS VERMONT by award winning Woodstock artist Neil Drevitson. Neil envisioned the sub returning from a successful mission on a moonlit night with all her submariners safe and accounted for.

The VCC was approached by League of Vermont Writers Robert Kershaw proposing books from Vermont authors for a Crew library. In partnership with the VCC, over 80 books were collected, many with inspirational messages from the authors, and presented to the USS VERMONT prior to her first lengthy underway.
