The last word left her hand as the ink smudged just the slightest on the final period, the paper peeling from her fingertips before twirling downwards, the wind toying with it for a few moment in a solemn dance before yielding the thin parchment and the script handwriting she'd done her best with to the calm lap of the waves nudging at the cliff.
The flowers at her feet rustled, a beautiful gold that caught the pinks and purples of the sunset as a tear glinted in her eye.
"Come home soon, my love."

A thin slip of paper fell, slowly, crashing against the waves before being pulled under violently, caught up in the riptide as it fell further down.
She looked up, a thin film of blue hanging above her head as she reached up, fingers gently brushing the surface above her, fingertips coming away wet with salt as she watched, a small slip of parchment twirling about in the weak current below the surface, sinking further, closer. She reached up once more, her hand making harsh contact with the water's under, a few drops slipped out past her as the letter came closer, seeming more real by the second until it slipped straight through what held her from crossing, the wet page falling before she caught it with her forearm, taking the page gently to hold it out.
It was legible, still. Oddly well preserved despite its trip.
She was silent, a tear running down her cheek.
"Love you too, my sweet melody."
