Overall, I think that all of this research has been very useful. Some of it is definitely more likely to be applied than others, however I think that I have done sufficient research to begin developing my VR asset and environment. Here is a summary of all the different aspects of my research individually:
Audio: My audio research, while not lengthily compared to other aspects of my research, will be very useful for my audio creation. Hopefully I will be able to utilize spacial audio, and I will definitely make sure that my final audio is relevant to the surrounding environment.
Software Techniques: When it comes to Blender, I am confident that I understand a variety of different techniques, and will be able to make an educated decision on which one I will primarily use in order to create my environment/asset. The ones I would love to look into further are box modelling, sculpting, and perhaps curve modelling. As for texturing in blender, I am happy that I understand the basics of node editing, and how to download and apply textures that I have found online.
Games Pipeline: Though I only used one source to research the games production pipeline, I believe that I understand the process well enough to describe and analyse each stage of the pipeline, its importance, and who is relevant in its completion. Perhaps I could have looked into a wider variety of sources to get some better, more unbiased research for this particular subject.
Game Engine: I will admit, this part of my research was a little last-minute, and overall quite rushed. I think that I did a fair amount of research into our given game engine, and the bits I missed out will be filled in later when we actually start producing in the software, however I wish I had spent more time researching into virtual reality in Unreal Engine specifically.
Traditional Drawing: Traditional drawing comes quite naturally to me personally (due to my existing skillset and strengths when it comes to design and illustration), and so not only is my research on it comprehensive, but it was remarkable easy and fun to look into. I am probably happiest with this section of my research.
Aesthetic & Target Demographic: My research into my selected audience is fairly well researched, I think; although this particular section is bridging the line between research and concepting, as I am formulating ideas on my final project. I think that perhaps I could have looked more into marketing techniques for my target demographic, and not as much into the aesthetic side (as I ended up going down a bit of a rabbit hole with my research).
Overall, I am quite happy with my research, as I think that the majority of it was well-sourced and comprehensive, and I am confident that I understand all of what I have written. If I were to do my research again, however, I think I would put more time and effort into researching Unreal Engine, and look into the different uses for virtual reality in the gaming world and other areas of technology.
