Puffins are one of the best North Atlantic treats and these fun little ones can be found each summer on Machias Seal Island. The island can only be reached on a guided ship. See Mainepuffin for the experience of a lifetime and another tick on the lifetime list.
A gravel pull off immediately in front of the bay bridge will lead to a small parking location. In late summer this is a prime location to spot bald Eagles sniping away a fresh catch from Ospreys at high tide. If you are an experienced kayaker, you can be treated to having either Eagles or Ospreys dive right next to you. Truly a wonderful experience. This is recommended only for EXPERIENCED boaters because this is Atlantic Ocean water that will cause hypothermia, and thus probably drowning, in less minutes than fingers on one hand.
An Osprey bringing home lunch. Hopefully before the Bald Eagles snatch it away.

Always a good spot for all Ocean birds. Occasional spotting of Herons fishing at low tide.
There are several cattail marshes that attract red wing blackbirds and finches. Woodpeckers and other forest varieties can be found just across the pond. The many varied habitats offers a great stop.
Head the opposite direction at the "Y" and keep a look out for Egrets and Herons.
Late winter mating location for many Arctic water fowl.
Summer months will turn up many geese, ducks and kingfishers.
Access by boat is the only way in. Kayaks and canoes can put in easily at Middle River Park.
Almost every year there is a nesting Osprey that can be found in this inland marsh. Bike or walk in, parking can be found at either end.
