At the mouth of Machias Bay, a stones throw away from Canada and Acadia National Park is one of the last unblemished coasts in Maine: Downeast Maine. "Downeast" gets its name from the old ship Captains sailing out of Boston who would sail down wind and East to arrive here. Originally settled for easy access to timber just before the start of the Revolutionary war, this town remained a working saw mill water front until the early/mid 1900's.
Today, you will discover many working water fronts for Maine's quintessential harvest of lobster, scallops, and clams. Watching a Bald Eagle steal dinner from an Osprey while you eat your dinner is completely common. Step inside and discover the original Maine. Machias. Magic.
