San Jose State University Special Collection

Collections include the early American to Omaha Indian Nation Music with Choral music, a collection of sheet music from the early 1800's, work from notable composers, American traditional music, and many more.

CSUDH Sacred Music Collection

The CSUDH Donald and Beverly Gerth Archives houses the Sacred Music Collection consisting primarily of approximately 300 photographs of performances of sacred music by the African American Diaspora, students, and faculty from California State University Dominguez Hills and southern California. The collections also include academic and community papers, audio and visual recordings, periodicals, concert programs and other ephemera that span from 1924 to 2010.

International Music Score Library Project

The International Music Score Library, also known as the Petrucci Music Library, is a free resource that features thousands of musical scores for music libraries.

All the resources available on this site exist on a public domain and are accessible to all visitors. This collection can be used by music libraries, researchers, composers and musicians for recreational and research purposes regarding music theory and composition, the history of music, and orchestration.


Search features enable scores to be filtered by instrument difficulty, composer, nationality, time period, genre, and instrumentation.

BandMusic PDF

This is a free sheet music resource featuring PDFs from the Golden Age of the American Town Band. All the PDFs are completely free to access. The site includes all links to organizations and resources that offer access to 1920s music and audio collections.


This resource can be used by school and community bands, directors, and music librarians seeking access to marches, waltzes, rags, theatre music, and much more.

As a part of The University of Washington Library’s rare book collection, The Music Library Digital Scores Collection contains manuscript musical scores dating from the 17th through 19th centuries. The majority of the collection is comprised of 17th and 18th century operas and excerpts, and other vocal music.


These resources are valuable to researchers, students, and university and library institutions.

Music Recordings

Smithsonian Folk Ways Recordings

The Archive of Folk Culture mainly consists of the collections of the American Folklife Center which includes more than six million photographs, manuscripts, audio recordings, and moving images. The collection also documents traditional recordings from all around the world including the earliest field recordings made in the 1890s on wax cylinder. It is one of the oldest and largest traditional recording repositories and is accessed by research institutions and folk lovers all around the world.

The Live Music Archive is available through the webpage Internet Archive, a non-profit digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form.
