1- Which level should I certify in?
I recommend the level 2 interactive first because most students are in this level (70%).
2- Can I certify in multiple levels before signing my contract and if so how?
Yes. Once you pass a certification you can email VIPKid and let them know that you are certifying in another level and schedule that certification within 3 days of completing your previous certification. You could certify in all of them before signing if you want.
3- Do you recommend certifying in multiple levels before signing my contract?
It is up to you, but you only get 2 tries to certify post contract signing and then you must wait a month to try again, so you may want to certify before with the unlimited tries. After signing your contract the lessons you teach are different and you record your demo rather than meet with a mentor. If you want to start building up your bookings you may want to sign (Get Trial certified) and add other certifications later.
4- How do I certify in Trial classes?
You can certify in trial classes after signing your contract, and I recommend doing this as soon as you sign for the best booking percentage when you start. It is under the “certification tab.”
5- What if I can’t schedule my mock within the 3 day time period?
Email VIPKid and ask for an extension. They are not strict on the 3 days, so if you are a day or so late you should be fine, but if it is a couple weeks email them to ask for an extension.
6- What if I miss my certification class?
If you miss your scheduled class then you email VIPKid and ask for a reschedule. You are able to reschedule 2x.
7- How do I do the online coaching class?
You should be able to find the online coaching class by going to your certification tab in the portal and selecting the online 2 hour session. There are also live coaching sessions at this link
Get the VIPKid Teacher App! There you can change your profile, check your schedule and look over the lessons for the classes you are going to be teaching. You can also fill in feedback after class from your phone if you aren’t able to on the computer right after class.
1- How do I open slots?
Go to the booking page in your teacher portal and click the Lock icon in the top right corner. Then when you select the time (It should be in your time zone and when you hover over it will show you the Beijing time) you can select Course (C) and then that slot is opened to be booked.
2- Will I be notified if I’m booked?
No, you need to check your schedule to see if you will be teaching. If you select the 24 hour booking option I suggest checking an hour before that time slot and then closing it if it isn’t booked to avoid a no show in case they book it within that 1 hour before, even though that isn’t supposed to happen (Sometimes it does).
3- How can I increase my bookings?
To get your first few bookings there are a couple things that you can do now.
Go to the "Certification" tab and click on "Major Course" and see if you can certify in any other levels. Certify in Trials if you haven’t already. You want to add more certifications so that you are more available for a variety of levels. You can check on the VIPKID Teacher App or on your portal to see what you are currently certified to teach.
Also, check on the "Library" tab and see the workshops to attend. There are great workshops to better understand the platform and to perfect your teaching before your first class.
Did you select the 24 hour booking option?
You can email vipkid from the portal (Support Button) and ask what your tags are. You can select to add some more tags that cater to the level that you are wanting to teach (younger=patient, older=conversation)
Jazzing up your intro video helps as well. You can download Imovie on your phone and add music and some cuts from there! Super simple. You can change your video by going to your profile on the VIPKID Teacher App! I have examples at the bottom of this document.
The biggest thing at first is to be patient and once you get your first booking you can ask for feedback by stating, “If you enjoyed the class, please send 5 apple feedback to VIPKID!” Put that at the end of your feedback to get the ball rolling for parents reviewing your class.
It took me around 2 months to see bookings pick up so stay in there! It is well worth the wait!!
3- The portal is frozen. What should I do?
First restart your computer. Then if it doesn’t login update your Flash Player and make sure that you are using google chrome as your web browser. You can update Flash Player here
If you still cannot get the system to work it is most likely a system error and you can email VIPKID here- teachvip@vipkid.com.cn to let them know.
4- If there is a student no show do I need to fill in feedback?
It is not required, but I always like to state, “I missed (student’s name) today, and I hope to see him/her next time.” If it is an assessment I don’t usually leave feedback because you can’t fill in the rubri.
5- I have my first assessment, what should I do? (UA’s are lesson 6 and 12 for levels 2-7 and checkpoints in level 1 are lesson 4 and 8)
6- How do I cancel a class?
You can go to the booking page and click on the class(es) you need to cancel. It will state, “Cancel Class” and you will select that and then a reason why. Remember you only get 7 cancels including teacher no shows within 6 months. Teacher IT’s don’t count towards this number.
7- Do we need to hit “Exit Classroom” before the 28 minute mark to officially finish on time?
No, you may stay in the classroom and finish your feedback past the 28 minute mark, and you will still earn the $1 bonus for time.
8- What does the flower mean by my name on the VIPKid Teacher App?
This is how many parents have liked your page, and they are considered “followers.”
9- How do I change my intro video?
You can change your intro video, profile pic, bio etc. by going to the VIPKid Teacher App and clicking on the bottom right icon of a profile. Then click on your name below your profile pic. There you can change any of those things by selecting them and selecting "change."
