Remember when Bernie Sanders said, "We just experienced the hottest month ever in the history of the planet?" Not only was Bernie telling a big hot whopper, but worse yet, one month later NOAA changed their temperature report to indicate that July was not the hottest month ever -- and the media (and Bernie) didn't even mention the correction. This talk will also reveal other temperature anomalies not reported by the media, even though this data is publicly available via government sources.
George will discuss his experiences evaluating (previously) highly classified (If I told you then, I'd have to kill you. Ha, ha) technology for Special Operations during the 1990's. Focus will be on 'exotic' weapons (DEW, HPM, AC-130 special rounds) and high tech sensors (Gen III NVG).
Monkeys, chimps and apes have many shared attributes with us. We will discuss common behavioral and evolutionary traits. Are we like them or are they like us?
"Calories," is a word our physiology doesn't actually understand. We will discuss how the body's conversion of food into energy goes awry from muscle disuse leading to the most commonly seen chronic illnesses as well as the connection to increased susceptibility to Covid complications.

Drake will take us on incredible journeys to climb Mt. Everest, hike across the North Pole, visit an underwater battleship, follow the source of the Amazon River, walk the entire Great Wall of China and more
Time is the finite “Time of Existence.” It is relative to any circumstance. It can be real or perceived.
This presentation discussed how Hurricane predictions are made and replicates the basic process used to arrive at hurricane season outlooks. There are several atmospheric rhythms (or cycles) of the earth that have been proven to be statistically significant at predicting storm potential. But because all the other cycles have variable periods they make hurricane outlook predictions very challenging.
George will discuss his experiences evaluating highly classified (If I tell you, I have to kill you. Ha, ha) technology for Special Operations during the 1990's. Focus will be on stealth technology (primer, F-117, Spec Ops applications) but 'exotic' weapons and high tech sensors can be discussed if time permits (or at another meeting)
The word 'cancer' covers a multitude of diseases. Breast cancer , for one, is heterogenetic, not just between tumors of the same type across a patient population, but also within a single patient AND also within an individual tumor (intra-tumor heterogeneity). This session looks at the current state of hormonal cancers and paradigm shifts in treatment.
Patrick Walsh, a Covanta representative, will explain what happens to our solid waste as it is cleanly converted to energy
This presentation covered the plant-based nutrition movement, its science, principle players (people and plants) and some tips for DIY home projects.
Albert will discuss methods and materials to cool structures without adversely affecting greenhouse gas emissions and global warming
Interactive discussion of us and the universe.
Gregg described the mass effect of the Higgs field on particles and discuss if that is where we and everything get our mass.
A Science Topics Presentation
Gregg presents information for Nasa and Space X regarding their plans for long term presence on the Moon and on Mars
We all dig down and do our homework, investigating a diagnosis that we were not expecting.. either our own or that of a loved one. This presentation is a high-level summary of my experience facing a myriad of decisions that followed receipt of a simple standard mammogram report..
How do you evaluate a 7.5 mile long iron ore deposit? How do you map an iron ore deposit when your compass always points to the nearest rock? What happens when a bear visits camp? How do you live in the north woods for 3.5 months?
A Science Topics Presentation
If you thought last month's presentation about the Universe was Big, what until you see Grahams Number and TREE(3). Numbers so big that writing them down would not fit in the Universe, even in microscopic font
Gregg described the development of the Theory of the Cosmos as seen by the ancient Greeks and a mechanism they developed to aid in visualizing their work
Dr. Ellis is an international bee expert who enjoys presenting his work and describes how Florida has mobile bee hives that move around the country to pollinate crops.
A Science Topics Presentation
Gregg discusses the strange and confusing information concerning the size of the Universe
Jim reviewed how many different types biological systems independently developed to be sensitive to photons of different wavelengths
Drake discussed how differently each sex thinks, feels and acts. Topics include hormones, brain wiring and societal norms.
A Science Topics Group Presentation:
Gregg Discusses the Ancient Greek Theories of the Universe and the tools that the Greeks used to predict Cosmological events
Jim explains what makes them fly and why they are so cool
The Villages’ Ground-Hog day tornado, on the morning of Feb 2nd, damaged 1,300 Villages homes. It is the 2nd worst tornado outbreak in Florida’s history, and it is the main focus of this talk. The talk includes a short Weather Radio demo, and concludes with safety tips – which covers lessons learned from the 2007 tornado.
In costume and with working props, Drake Shepard portrays a personable "Albert Einstein." An in depth and entertaining coverage of a world ICON.
Jim takes you to the edge of the universe, where the Hubble telescope has detected thousands of galaxies in a small portion of distant space.
