OTA 1170 Physical Dysfunction Fieldwork I is a one-hour/week and thirty-hour clinical site experience Community-Engaged Learning course. Emphasis is to expose students to a variety of diagnoses, to develop professional behaviors and clinical observation skills, complete community engaged learning specific to adult physical dysfunction populations, and learn the basics of documentation in the occupational therapy profession.
For my community engaged learning project I made a card matching board. I was excited to make something that I knew was versatile and that the OTPs and clients at my fieldwork could benefit from using. The card matching board can be used for visual scanning, UE ROM, fine motor coordination, crossing midline, supination, grasp/release with a target, working on neglect, and while practicing dynamic standing. It was meaningful to put time and effort into something that will benefit others and to be able to connect its many uses to the dysfunctions that we have been learning about.
