OTA 1130 Modalities I Supervised Instruction is a two-hour/week Community-Engaged Learning course. This course covers practical application of wheelchair usage, adaptive equipment, fabricating splints, role-playing and teaching strategies, techniques for treatment in ADLs and IADLs, functional transfers, and cognitive assessment.
The goal of this experience was to practice administering the Allen Cognitive Level Screen assessment. We were able to go to the Work Activity Center and work with the individuals there. After role-playing with our peers, it was a great opportunity to apply our knowledge of the cognitive assessment. It was a great experience and I really enjoyed the opportunity we had to engage with the people there. This experience boosted my confidence in my abilities to interact and quickly build rapport with clients and furthered my understanding of how to administer the ACL Screening, interpret the different cognitive levels, and how the levels correlate with what interventions are appropriate.
