Dear Friend,
Viswa Bharati Vidyodaya Trust (VBVT) is a community-led organisation working with Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups in the Gudalur valley. Over the past 30 years, VBVT has enabled most of the 3,500 Adivasi children across 320 villages to attend local schools. Our work includes an Adivasi school, village learning centres, and the training of Adivasi youth as para-teachers. This long-term, trust-based effort has built an Adivasi-led organisation (80%+ Adivasi team and board) and supported 500+ alumni who are now community leaders and first-generation professionals. However, our Adivasi school runs only up to the primary level, and many adolescents attending mainstream schools disengage or drop out during the transition to secondary education.
Vidyodaya 2.0 is our response: a permanent, community-designed campus that upgrades our school to the high school level with added vocational and hostel facilities, and develops formally qualified Adivasi educators rooted in their villages. These teachers will be placed in over 95+ regional schools, supporting students through the most vulnerable schooling years. More than a school, the campus will serve as a regional education hub, open to local Adivasi learners and home to a specialised Adivasi Resource and Teacher Education Centre. Our new strategy will strengthen local leadership and create stable, engaging learning pathways for adolescents. We invite you to walk with us in building a future led by Adivasi teachers and learners.
Warmly,
Vinoth Ethiraj
Executive Secretary, VBVT
