Thirty years of education work
Over nearly three decades, education work in Gudalur focused on ensuring that every Adivasi child entered and remained in school.
This work began with first-generation learners and required sustained engagement with families, villages, and schools, and was carried out through three interlinked efforts:
Establishing a small Adivasi school with a culturally responsive curriculum, academic learning rooted in community life and values.
Training Adivasi youth as para-teachers, who act as bridges between community life and the modern world.
Supporting children in schools and their parents, through continuous accompaniment as families navigated formal schooling for the first time.
As a result of this long-term effort, all 3,500 Adivasi children from 320 villages are now enrolled in schools. Education became an accepted and shared aspiration within the community, and access to schooling is no longer the primary barrier.
