The 1869 Beers map of West Rutland mentions the marble companies that occupied different quarries and mill lots in West Rutland before the consolidation of the Vermont Marble Co. in 1880. Several of these names correspond with what we can consider the names of the quarries remaining on the site to be today.
This includes the Sheldon Quarries of Sheldons and Slason, the Clement Quarry and Ripley-Gilson or "Kitchen" Quarry of Clement, Parker, and Gilson, the Manhattan Quarries of the Manhattan Marble Co., and the Sherman Quarry of Sherman, Adams, and Langdon.
