The process of understanding where different types of stone come from, identifying opportunities for profit, and strategically planning for different types of quarrying is a complex one with a complex history.
For many years, the challenges presented by quarrying stone, especially in terms of its hard and heavy nature, were incredibly limited by technology and little changed for hundreds of years in terms of quarrying methods. With the industrial revolution of the early 19th century and the advent of different forms of power for machinery, quarrying became less labor intensive and presented greater chances for financial gain.
