Maven was born and raised in Dublin. Her mother owned a flower shop and her father owned a popular pub that the locals often flocked to for good drinks. They also had a family farm with a couple horses and other farm animals where they raised and sold livestock, as well as seasonal produce and baked goods. She had a fairly normal childhood and was an active kid in all of her family’s work. However, her favorite thing to do was go fishing and hunting with her father. She spent years perfecting her technique with a crossbow until she was so silent and stealthy, she could get within just a few meters of a deer without startling it. Her family mostly used the game for food and to sell as stuffed trophies. She learned to taxidermy and handle a gun at around the same time. By age sixteen, she could make a lifelike pin of a butterfly, a lifelike stuffing of a hare, and fire a gun with near-perfect aim. This was also around the age she met her soon-to-be husband, Benjamin McCool.
Benjamin was a member of the Irish Mob, and while Maven fell for his bad-boy charm and the fact that he brought action and excitement to her otherwise normal and quickly-feeling-dull life, he was a sweet and devoted lover to her. The few would date steadily and during that time, Maven would also become a member of the mob. She was young and naive, and to her, the crime and the action all felt like a game. She didn’t take it too seriously and yet she never got caught or got in trouble. Her parents tried to guide her back on the right path but Maven was going through a rebellious streak. Some short time after a failed intervention, her mother suddenly passed. Her father said it was from heartbreak. Maven was devastated and this only drove her harder into her adrenaline rush-chasing lifestyle to cope. Four years later, her and Benji got married and started trying for a family. They ended up having twins, Benji Junior and Moira. The family lived in relative peace for about 3 years before Benji found himself in hot water with the mob. He called his wife late one night and told her to take the kids and leave. He meant to hang up but his phone was left on and Maven heard in real-time as her husband was murdered and how the new leader was planning to sniff them out and kill his family too. Maven dropped everything and left that very night with the two kids, sneaking into a ship and smuggling the three of them overseas to the United States.
Just 23 and with two 3-year-old children on her hip without a cent to her name, Maven struggled to get by. She spoke little English and worked a variety of jobs being underpaid and overworked. Over time she managed to gain enough money to rent out a flat and keep enough food on the table that her children wouldn’t go hungry. Eventually, Maven found herself slipping back into organized crime as a robber, a gun for hire, a paid thief, and an overseer for shady deals. She made significantly more money despite not wanting to be part of the crime life anymore and made many names for herself. She knows now it’s not a game anymore, yet some part of her can’t help but be playful in regards to shady work. She tries hard to make the most of her situation and tries extra hard to now keep her personal life and her professional life very separate. By day she serves as a wonderful role model and loving mother for her two children. By night, she is an infamous ghost stalking the streets of Liberty City with just one goal: make enough money to move somewhere safe to raise her babies.
Brash, bold, brave, and witty, Maven is a real firecracker of a lady. After playing the “out-of-place immigrant” role, she’s determined that she won’t be allowing the new city to steamroll or pull a fast one on her anymore. She’s a tough woman who can throw a sharp punch to match her sharp tongue. She’s blunt and honest about situations, and even more so about what she wants and why she wants it. She’s quickly become a seasoned veteran when it comes to spotting classic scams and Liberty City schemes and she’s solidly decided she’s got no time for any of it. If she sees something wrong, she’ll make quite a fuss about it to get everyone’s attention, and then she’ll take matters into her own hands. Maven’s big mouth has gotten her into trouble more than a few times but her street smarts tend to get her out of a fix just as quickly-- a small perk of being a career criminal she’s found. But as annoying as ner natural spitfire can be, it does have a more endearing side to it as well. Maven’s stubbornness and ability to face potential conflict head-on pairs well with the fact that she is a loyal friend. She will defend those she cares about, as well as hold them accountable whenever they do wrong.
Additionally, Maven is as assertive as she is good at ruffling feathers. She can be a bit rough-and-tumble when she plays around with others- tossing jokes and playfully wrestling with them and lobbing playful jabs at them- but she’s wise to social cues and emotions and knows that she can’t be that way with everyone. In this regard, she tends to show the more gentle, delicate side of her personality. She is very caring and generous, offering help and offering charity wherever she finds she can. Her philosophy stems not only from the fact her family has always been ver considerate of others, but also from the fact that she wants to set a good example for her kids in action and not just words. That, and she also hopes to spare people from the same rough experiences that she had to go through by subtly guiding them onto a kinder, more hopeful path.
