Content warning for mention of death, war, torture, and being buried alive.
Yuna, like many, was swept up into the war during the Great Smoke Out. Though her mother managed to find refuge from the violence and destruction by traveling from place to place often and avoiding the hands of humans looking to poach her and her daughter. However, their luck ran out when she was around twelve. Her mother went out to hunt for them while she and her siblings remained hidden and never returned. Days went by where the cubs found themselves starving and eventually, they decided they could not stay in their hiding place. They ventured far looking for food and were ambushed after their first successful hunt by humans who captured her and her siblings. The three of them were traded around between illicit groups in Africa where they found themselves being violently tortured and forced to fight in illegal ring operations. Sadly, Yuna’s siblings both died in the ring and Yuma barely survived most of the encounters. She was often caged without food or water for days and then forced to compete in bloodsports for entertainment.
During her captivity, Yuna met two other catfolk. Together, the three of them made plans to escape the place. They managed to maul their handler one night and made a daring escape for freedom. They wandered many miles to the nearest Mythic military outpost and enlisted immediately. Yuna dedicated herself to becoming an explosives technician while her colleagues took up weapons designs and assembly. The three of them became an effective trio that wreaked havoc on human forces. They were feared for their infamy. Eventually, Yuna came to fall in love with one of the other catfolk. They vowed that one day when the war was over, they would be married. Unfortunately, that future would never come. In a hasty operation gone wrong, one of Yuna’s explosives was triggered prematurely and she was buried under the rubble and presumed dead. Though her partner refused to leave her behind he was eventually forced to retreat. Yuma survived the encounter but was pinned beneath the mass amounts of debris for several weeks. She eventually managed to escape on her own and developed an intense fear of being buried alive as a result. She made a desperate attempt to seek help at a local village of Mythics. After being taken to an elder healer, she was informed she had survived because she had a tremendous gift: she was a Guardian.
Yuna proceeded to spend several weeks in the village learning to gain mastery over her powers of earth, soil, and rock as she healed. She did her best to give back to the village what she could and helped defend it from several attacks. Among human ranks, word quickly spread about a ghost cat that could bend the land to its will leading soldiers astray into canyons and then burying them alive- which is exactly what Yuna did. By the end of the war, her name had gained infamy and it was pretty much guaranteed that no humans would approach her supposed territory regardless of orders or reasons. Yuna eventually retired from her single-handed defense job but her legend remained. She decided to pursue a degree in archaeology and paleontology with the help of the Takamura Sisters. They funded her education and her pursuit to start a museum detailing the history of Mythics. She ended up establishing the museum right near the village she used to guard and around it has emerged a booming new city with a thriving economy. Yuna herself has become dedicated to her pursuit of traveling and unearthing old structures and artifacts depicting Mythic history, as well as accepting donations from species and groups that they wish to have immortalized. The museum has a variety of displays and exhibits that visitors can interact with and Yuna will proudly give tours of it all.
Yuna is a well-mannered, polite, and good-natured. She’s quite modest and tends to be mellow. Her patience is nearly limitless given her occupation of digging up fossils and artifacts, which can be quite tedious. She’s a good teacher who emphasizes explaining everything she can in digestible, easy to understand ways and her dedication to her museum is obvious in everything she does. She’s passionate about recording and memorializing the history of Mythickind and explaining the history and power of Mythics to anyone interested. She has alliances with several groups which she uses as resources for a lot of the information she shares. When she’s not giving tours and organizing new exhibits, Yuna is out exploring the world herself, asking groups about their history for the records, searching for long lost artifacts, and going on interviews and adventures to bolster the content of her museum. She’s become a primary source for anyone who wants to learn anything about Mythics.
When Yuna is stepping back from work completely, she tends to be laid-back and enjoys pottery, racing, and photography of the more mundane variety. Her social media following adores her lovely pictures and she makes a decent profit selling her own original pottery to an international market. Yuna has been regarde by friends and colleagues as being light-hearted, passionate, carefree, focused, and admirable. Despite all that she has been through, she maintains a level of benevolence and understanding that few others could ever maintain given the circumstances. Her endless compassion and unbreakable spirit has become an iconic symbol of strength for the Mythic community and she is proud to be a figurehead for the myths of the world.T
