Volt was born into a Nomad family known as the Desert Wolves. Her mother died during childbirth and her dad, who was from a different Nomad clan, took off shortly after she was born. Jaxen took over most of her care and education, and supported little Volt as the Nomad clan was pressured by a corporation and eventually turned into a Night City gang as a way out. In the end, the gang was picked at and fell apart after just a few short months. Volt was still a child and stayed with Jaxen for a few years after the collapse, where she picked up mechanical skills and more importantly, fist-fighting skills from her maternal figure. Her childhood revolved around learning how to take care of herself and show independence at home while Jax went out and struggled to make money for them. Despite how hard it was, Jax never failed to make Volt feel like a normal kid with plenty of love and attention. Eventually though, Jax began looking more and more tired, more beat up, and started going off longer and longer, until one day she didn’t come back. Despite being told his might happen, Volt was still devastated by the loss. Nonetheless, she was a smart kid and knew she couldn’t wait around for someone to save her.
Volt got involved in the Night City underground scene early. She became a street kid, hustling to find work. Her especially was in stealth infiltration and thievery - she took great advantage of her small size to squeeze through ventilation systems and hide in boxes to get where she needed to be and grab what she needed to. As a child, she mastered the art of manipulation with puppy eyes and pouty lips. As she got older and her more rebellious nature began to emerge, Volt began taking a new approach now that her childish charms were no longer working. She went all in on her punk aesthetic, took up boxing and street fights for cash, and while she still did thievery gigs and stealth missions with her impressive knowledge of hacking, she’d come to add shakedowns, intimidation runs, and brute force bring-downs to her list of available services. It was a turn in her life that came with as many enemies as it did eddies, but she was more than content with her life by that point. She even managed to scrape together enough to buy a real dog! (Although in reality, what she really wants more than anything is a horse - a real one, a real Mustang specifically.)
A few years down the line, Volt got a knock at her door and found Jaxen standing before her. She was tempted to slam the door in her face or scream at her to fuck off for abandoning her, but Jaxen suddenly bursting into tears, shaking and covered in bruises and wet from the rain made her hesitate. She let Jax in, where she was apologized to over and over again and informed of the situation: the abandonment was the result of an abusive relationship, and Jaxen had spent the last few years being isolated and beaten relentlessly by her husband. Volt’s heart immediately melted, as she was just glad to finally have answers and have her mother figure back. She forgave Jax and allowed her to say and help her get back on her feet. When Jax started her ripperdoc clinic, Volt was the one stealing the implants from new shipments for her. When Jax got her apartment, Volt helped her pay for it. When Jax was looking for clients for implants, Volt got the recommendations to her. The two mended their relationship and became as close as they once were again.
All the while, Volt’s stayed on her grind of trying to climb the Night City underground social ladder. She still hasn’t gotten very far, but frankly, she’s content to just continue sticking it to the corporations, go out clubbing, and feel the wind in her mohawk while she does 150 down the highway on her motorcycle and pretends it's a horse.
Volt is what many would describe as deceptively smart. She comes across as a reckless, impulsive, rebellious mercenary that likes to drink, dance, smoke, and stick it to the corps with her naive mix of nihilism and personal passion for those lowest on the ladder. And that’s not an entirely inaccurate perception of her. However, it is deceptively one-dimensional and people often foolishly overlook the true intelligence and strength behind her outward personality. Contrary to the brash way she may come off, Volt is far from foolish. She doesn’t just do things on a whim. Well, the things that matter at least. She is a careful planner, a strategist, and everything she does she does it with purpose. Only when her main plan and her backup plan fails does she turn to winging it, often with brute force. Even in her improvisations, Volt takes care to have an in-depth understanding of her jobs, environments, and situations in order to make an emergency exit as quick and clean as possible - when she can of course. Volt is far from stupid. Don’t let her fiery determination and stubbornness trick you into thinking she’s a meathead. Her brain gets just as much exercise as her fists do.
Confident, cool, and charismatic, Volt prefers to solve problems with words before taking a swing at people. Those she can’t charm or intimidate into backing down will quickly find themselves knocked down. And any attempts at retaliation will be met with shocking consequences; since Volt’s cybernetics are all focused with the intention of causing as much physical damage, shock damage, and bleeding as possible. She knows how to leave her mark, and she will make damn sure that anyone who crosses her never forgets the encounter. At least, if they aren’t knocked unconscious. Despite the enthusiasm with which she can throw punches, dodge, and lay down a solid KO, violence is not Volt’s preferred method of problem solving. She prefers to do things cleanly and professionally, mostly because that tends to be quicker.
At her core though, Volt’s a lot more friendly than she looks. She enjoys talking to people, helping out her community where possible, and getting friendly - even if the number of people she actually trusts is slim to none. She thrives on being the center of attention and having the company of others. She’s bold, she’s wild, and she lives for the thrill of drinking, street-fights, and races. She knows Night City is an absolutely shitshow dusted in neon and glitter, but she makes the most of her situation by finding fun wherever she can. And if fun cannot be found, then she will simply create it at the expense of every single form of authority in town, from the cops to the corps and back. Nothing holds this tough cookie back.

Cyberpunk 2077 - MAIN
Volt works as a merc for hire with a specialty in infiltration, thievery, and anything requiring a lot of muscle.
Volt earned her nickname for the fact that while she was growing up and learning mechanics and life skills from Jaxen, she shocked herself. A lot. Though it was painful, she said that being shocked was fun because it always gave her a rush right before the pain kicked in.
Volt’s actually a natural blonde. She used to wear it long and styled it to be wavy like old-timey beach girls because she thought it looked pretty. It wasn’t until she hit her teens that she impulsively shaved it all off because she was upset. When it started growing back, it was very fluffy. She ended up keeping it in a Mohawk style and dyed it, eventually coming to love her more punk look.
The only downside to her hawk is that every time it rains, it ends up drooping and looking like a half-shave and undercut combo.
It seems pretty counter-intuitive for a merc like Volt to wear the bright flashy colors that she does; vibrant purples and pinks with neon lights and accents on her clothes. Truth is though, she makes up for it with a cloaking ability in her sub-dermal body armor. No one ever sees her anyway.
Just like her mother, Volt throws down hard in street fights. She’s a well-respected champion of the game, taking challengers in and beating them down in her own little arena in Watson - a basketball court no one uses anymore.
Even outside of the ring, Volt’s earned a lot of respect for her sense of integrity. She steps to people much bigger and much more powerful than her without fear or hesitation if she thinks what they’re doing is unfair. She won’t hesitate to put someone back in their place if they overstep on her turf.
With great boldness comes great pride, and Volt is no exception. Her ego has gotten her into quite a few scraps trying to prove a point to others or impress them. Luckily, she’s knowledgeable and flexible enough to get herself out of the trouble she finds herself in, but many wish she’d stop endangering herself for the sake of pride and pride alone.
Volt mainly fights with electric gorilla arms and a Shock-and-Awe immune system implant that allows her to discharge electricity. Because that electric motif never left her. Her blocking and defensive strategies are only outmatched by her offensive strategies.
Even outside of combat, Volt’s rigged her electrical circuit up to the rest of her, and she won’t hesitate to shock anyone who’s getting on her nerves and tries to touch her. More commonly though, she tends to shock people by accident when they sneak up on or startle her suddenly and get too close.
Volt can run like hell. She’s fast, she’s agile, and seemingly doesn’t get tired. She’s masterful at urban navigation, wall-climbing, and parkour too. If she takes off, you’ll never catch her and likely never find her either.
In addition to have a mean physical prowess, Volt is skilled in the art of quickhacks and digital navigation. Actual intelligence, as well as street smarts, were another thing she (thankfully) picked up from Jax. She has the tools and prowess to become a top-of-the-line netrunner or a powerful exec of some corporation somewhere with how smart she actually is. But she doesn’t want to. She just wants to be adventurous and free and run around fucking people up for cash.
That being said, Volt does not immediately seem smart. She talks a lot and with great speech comes a lot of great stupidity and random jabber. It’s often humorous, granted - such as referring to W as double-v and pronouncing words like wolf and wild as “volf” and “vild.” She tends to talk a lot of shit and tease people and joke around so much that it can be actually jarring to hear her speak with as much logic and eloquence as she’s capable of.
Volt’s two favorite types of music are hard rock and J-Pop. Specifically, anything Vocaloid.
Volt practically lives on Japanese and Chinese takeout. Yakitori, friend noodles, shrimp, dumplings - you name it. She also loves Italian cuisine but she find it really hard to find. She makes a banger plate of spaghetti and meatballs, gnocchi, and stuffed shells, but she generally finds cooking a chore.
As a followup to that, Volt is actually a big foodie. She has a very sensitive palette and she can tell you by just a sniff or a sample what a dish is missing. She knows when flavors are not in balance and how to correct that perfectly. But she’s also not a picky eater and doesn’t believe in wasting food. Even if she thinks her meal sucks, she’ll still clean her plate.
Volt’s favorite snacks are sweets, cold treats, and spicy foods. She lives for chocolate candies, mint chocolate chip ice cream, and flaming hot chip or salsa that features ghost peppers. The only problem with her affinity for cold treats like ice creams and smoothies is that she eats too fast and often gives herself brain freeze.
Volt has a big thing about keeping her mouth busy. She always has gum to chew on, cigarettes, to smoke, or toothpicks to play with. Because if she didn’t, she’d just keep yappin’ until peoples’ ears fell off.
Volt is one of those people who doesn’t get hot easily so she can just layer on clothes, no matter the weather. She prefers things to be a bit cooler believe it or not, mostly because working out under the sun can get pretty messy pretty quickly. But she can really handle any temperature.
Volt actually uses hearing aids. Consistent exposure to loud machinery from her work fixing up mechanics and gunfire from gigs has taken a toll on her hearing abilities. It didn’t help that she liked to blast her music in her car and at home at high volumes - and don’t even ask about her headphone usage. She’s not totally dependent on them and will even take them out when she’s at home, but she got them as a recommendation from Jax after she noticed some things after a checkup. Namely, how she’d have to yell to get Volt’s attention from one room over with open doors.
One of Volt’s goals is to own a horse. Like a real, genuine, fleshy organic horse. Specifically, she wants a mustang that she can ride on out in the desert and care for.
While she doesn’t have a horse, Volt does have a dog named Munch. He’s a Pit-Boxer mix and he doubles as a good guard dog and an absolute baby. He loves getting cozy in people’s laps, he’s well-trained and knows lots of tricks, and he loves vanilla ice cream. Volt picked him up off the street and doesn’t pay taxes for him so he’s trained to be quiet. Which is great for anyone familiar with him, and the bane of any would-be intruder’s existence when he sneaks up on them before taking a chunk out of their leg.
Volt doesn’t like riding in cars or small closed spaces. She’s not claustrophobic. She just feels nauseated at the idea of being “confined” for too long. She prefers to be a on a bike anyways because she feels it’s faster and more flexible.
Volt tends to be fairly neat and organized. Her house isn’t sparkling, and she may occasionally leave laundry on he floor overnight, but she always keeps it tidied up during the day.
Volt has an outdoor Jacuzzi that she built and that she uses frequently. It helps alleviate the tension in her muscles after a long day of work. The only problem is, she tends to fall asleep in it - which is dangerous for obvious reasons.
Volt was a Warrior Cats kid. And she is completely shameless in that fact. She grew up on the series and though she wasn’t a fan of the latter books and eventually fell off of them, she was one of those kids who shamelessly used to run around on all fours and pretend to be a feral cat with the other kids of her clan. (Bonus fact: her warrior name was Lightningclaw.)
As she got older, she wanted to become a Cyberninja. That dream quickly died but she loved the gymnastics and acrobatics she learned from Jax all the same.
Volt used to, and still does, read a lot though. She loves picking up new series and binging entire books while she soaks in her tub. She reads about 800k words a week.
Volt has a strict workout regimen she follows comprised of strength training, weightlifting, and body building to stay in shape for her fights. She likes swimming too, but she doesn’t get to do it as often as she likes.
Volt strongly prefers her nickname to her actual name. No one, aside from Jax, knows her as anything otherwise. Even the official forms of ID she has lists her full name as being “Valerie Vasquez” - which is not even close to the truth, and even then she still goes by just Volt or V. There’s a couple reasons for this. Firstly, because Roseliña Giulietta Maria Evelinda Hazel Vasquez Bellafiore is a mouthful in her opinion, Secondly, the name carries a lot of sentiment of a life she both resents and wishes she could go back to. It feels like a very big and very intimate secret and she doesn’t feel comfortable telling just anyone about it. And thirdly, because she feels strange talking about her heritage without any biological family around and she feels that she’d stick out a lot more with a name like hers just floating around. She might be half-Mexican, but it’s her other half that feels like it doesn’t belong where she is right now.
Volt dislikes being alone because her mind is always on the go, and if she doesn’t have other people to talk to or other things to distract herself with, she get bothered by he places it begins to wander.
Ironically, despite her name, Volt hates the sound of thunder. She spent too many night sleeping outside with little to no shelter from the rain and the elements that the bright flashes and loud bangs of thunder unsettle her to a degree where she’d rather stay hidden somewhere inside until it passes.
Volt doesn’t really like looking at herself for too long. It’s not so much body image issues as it is issues she has with her own character. She has some deep-rooted anxiety tied into her abandonment issues and they’ve sort of manifested into a general sense of malcontent with who she is. She just doesn’t like herself as a person all that much and doesn’t like having to face herself or think too deeply about it.
Tw self-harm mention: Volt has trouble with intrusive thoughts. They often manifest as unpleasant or traumatic memories, ideas of harming others or herself, fear that she might be sick at random, and a fear that she might ruin things at any given moment.
Volt tends to space out a lot when she’s by herself. She gets lost in her own head, usually wrapped up in overthinking or her own obsessive, anxious thoughts. She doesn’t like when it happens.
Volt suffers from insomnia as a result of her intrusive thoughts. As a result, she’s developed a secret dependency on tranquilizers to knock herself out so she doesn’t have to deal with tossing and turning for hours because of it.
Volt has a deep-rooted fear of emotional intimacy, vulnerability, and commitment because of her abandonment anxiety, rejection sensitivity, and general lack of self worth. She lives by the idea that she won’t get hurt if she never allows herself the opportunity to be hurt. Unfortunately, this also manifests in her never asking for help or letting on how much she’s struggling, even when it’s drowning her. The only person she ever talks to about things is Jax, and even then, she won’t tell her mom everything if she thinks it’s too much.
Tw alcohol mention: Volt very much self-medicates with smoking and alcohol because she knows that something’s wrong and that she’s different from other people, and she knows that her differences from others is making her life more difficult, but she doesn’t understand how or why and it upsets her.
Tw death: Volt has vivid memories of watching members of what used to be her clan being murdered on the streets in front of her as a child. She remembers their eyes staring at her as they bled out in front of her. She remembers people dying under her little hands as she tried to help them. Those memories haunt her sometimes.
Volt can sing. She’s not like an expert or anything, but she carries a tune well and enjoys vocalizing to her favorite songs. Undoubtedly, she sings best when she’s in the shower.
Despite her punk style, Volt is a big fan of traditionally girly aesthetics and motifs, like unicorns, rainbows, mermaids, and flowers. She has a jacket with various patches on it with such motifs.
Volt’s a sucker for the old classic princess and prince stories, like Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and Snow White. She also loves animated movies with animals and cartoons. A part of her never grew up and is still daydreaming about a happy ending.
