Born in Orleans, Vermont, Kayla was raised on a bustling farm. The only child of two parents, her start in life was rough. Her father, a very traditional farmer with a large business in meat and grain products, often clashed with her mother, a psychic and medium by trade. Her mother’s fascination with the arcane clashed with her father’s religious background and would inevitably lead them to get a divorce early on. Her mother ended up leaving her life completely, her father taking over raising her. From a young age, Kayla was described as being an oddball. She tended to claim that she was seeing things that weren’t actually there, or staring at things that had inexplicably moved. She disappeared for long periods of time and returned without explanation. Her odd behavior had her father in close contact with the local priests and doctors but both priests and medical professionals found nothing out of the ordinary. The behavior was something Kayla ended up growing out of as she got older, and her relieved father believed it was probably just a side effect of the messy divorce she’d had to endure at just 5 years old.

Kayla was a remarkable academic student, but what really caught the attention of her mentors was her desire to go above and beyond in achievements, especially sports. Between her fascination with agriculture and her competitive sport side, she brought home gold numerous times for her school, uncaring of how hard people tried to exclude her from events. In high school, she developed a rivalry with Candice that would later dissolve into a friendship and a crush, though she never acted on it. After Candice moved across the country following graduation, Kayla promised they would stay in contact and prepared to help her father take on the farm. Two years into her new life as a farmhand, Kayla began getting strange feelings. An impending sense of doom loomed over her head constantly, and she felt uneasy about certain shifts in the atmosphere of her home that she couldn’t explain. She came home from a summer festival late one night to find her father dead in the kitchen. He failed to turn up at the fair like he said he would and in her blind flood of emotion, Kayla screamed. At that very moment, the entirety of the house, the farm, and indeed the entire property spontaneously combusted, destroying everything on it. Except for Kayla.

The anomalous nature of the event caught the attention of several local SCP agents who inserted themselves into the investigation and detained Kayla. She was taken to the Foundation where she was tested and, as was expected, she was marked as a reality-bender. She was immediately placed in quarantine as a Keter class and would spend several years in containment before catching wind that Candice was there. Candice was informed of her attempts at communication and requested that she be extended an invitation to join the newly forming Mobile Task Force. On several conditions, Kayla was accepted and began mental and physical training, finding her place at Candice’s side once again as her second-in-command. She’s been running with the dog-catcher’s since.

Tough, quick as a whip, and adaptable, Kayla has worked hard to keep the privilege of her freedom. She’s extremely disciplined and follows order to a T without compromising her integrity or morals. She tends to be a bit stubborn, raised to stand her ground and never give up no matter how against her the odds may be, and she’s as loyal as a dog to her companions. She was raised with the mentality that no one gets left behind, and though she can turn the other cheek sometimes, she’s more likely to hold a grudge than she appears. With her line of work, revenge is not a luxury she can usually afford, but if she can, she will take.

That being said, she’s not actually sadistic, and indeed she is a whole other person when there is no work to be concerned about. A naturally optimist with a quick wit and sharp tongue, Kayla proves herself to be a relatively friendly face. Not like by all and not expecting to be, she minds her manners and tries to help where she can. More than anything though, she feels right at home with her teammates, happy to play games with them, watch movies with them, and spend plenty of one on one time helping them. She’s very social and extroverted and loves being around other people. When she’s not focused on being a crowd pleaser, Kayla spends her downtime focusing on herself. She still has a very long way to go in terms of mastering her psychic and telekinetic abilities, but with each passing day her grip on what she’s capable of grows stronger. She also has to practice keeping herself emotionally stable, knowing that any sudden flare up of feelings could very well end up with her opening a black hole or causing half the site to explode.
