Celeste Osborne-Jones was born into a very living situation. Her mother was a prostitute selling herself for money, her father, just one of many of her mother’s clients. She was her mother’s only child carried to term amidst a plot to collect child support to be used as money for her own survival. Her mother was incredibly neglectful of Celeste’s own needs, often ignoring her and leaving her alone for long periods of time. As a result of her mother’s negligence, Celeste found herself often being abused at the hands of her mother’s clients. Unable to protect herself, starving, and realizing she would die if she did not fend for herself, Celeste fled her mother’s apartment at around six years old. She was a relatively smart child and knew by this point that trash cans had food she could eat and could make warm places to hide in. Eventually, she was taken in by a sympathetic couple who cared for her in ways she didn’t know were possible. While she did her best to make them proud and excelled in her academic pursuits, Celeste ultimately found herself struggling with emotional development, something was not overlooked by her parents or teachers, but was never addressed.
As she got older, she was indecisive about what career path she wanted to take. She ended up settling on a job in the sciences, then later switched to teaching. Unfortunately, her monetary situation was not favorable. She ended up joining the US military as a member of the armed forces. She was deployed out to the middle east for a collection of years, working her way up the chain of command to First Class Sergeant before ultimately being discharged on purple heart. At age 25, she went back to school to become a teacher while working as a retail worker on the side. After a time, she grew to be quite content with her life. She had just gotten into a rather stable relationship with another man from the military and the two decided to settle for a while. He expressed a desire to get married, though she was not ready to commit. The two did end up adopting two children, Asriel and Nani. Life went smoothly for several more years. At age 31, the twins were both hospitalized with a serious condition that escalated into them being put on life support. After the difficult decision to take them off after a year of fighting with no improvement, Celeste’s mental health plummeted. Her partner and her separated and she had to resign from both her jobs. She was in a great deal of emotional stress for many years and decided to try going back to school for a biochemistry degree. She graduated 4 years later from an accelerated program, but couldn’t find work and thus decided to return to the military under the guise of being a different person. She stayed involved for about 2 years before her and her battalion were ambushed by SCP-682 during one of its escapes. She was the only survivor of the attack, taken in and detained for questioning.
After being informed that she would not be able to return to her normal life, she agreed to serve the Foundation and its cause. She proved to be an effective and ruthless scientist and MTF unit, willing to do whatever it took to get the job done. She rose to power alarmingly fast. Within 4 years, at age 41, she was voted in as the eighth member of the O5 council. Five years after her election, she began a project based on the previously established and massive failure of Pandora’s Box. After years of vying for council approval she finally won the vote by an incredibly narrow margin and was given the greenlight for her project with the caveat that it would be under extreme scrutiny. Thus, Mobile Task Force Alpha-6 was formed.
Cold, callus, and calculating, Dr. O is the perfect example of not only an O5, but of what a member of the SCP Foundation needs to be. She lets no sense of emotion cloud her judgement, using only the cold hard facts and the guidelines established by the Foundation to guide her votes and her motions. She refrains from viewing decisions with bias… most of them at least. While Celeste believes in catering to the many rather than the few and doing what is best, regardless of what that entails, she has many established connections and favors that are owed to her. She also has a decent amount of sway within the council, and while it is hardly used unless the situation is truly pressing, most of that leeway is applied to her own project, Alpha-6. Time and time again she has used executive power to keep the team from going under, rousing some suspicions about her. She plays these suspicions off with a very cold facade, denying allegations and leaving no trace of her own agenda anywhere. She’s a model secret keeper behind closed doors, and a model figure for the Foundation to look up to for guidance and for an example of great leadership.
Outside of her O5 position, Celeste tends to sing a very different tune. She’s very much become a caring maternal figure to the team, especially Candice, who she often regards as her own daughter. She does whatever she can for the team within reason and frequently guards them from attacks and orders presented by the more leery members of the council that are still very uncertain that her experiment is stable. She tends to be just as calm and apathetic off the job as she is on it, reserving the minimal sense of emotion she has for the select few she trusts. In truth, Celeste struggles to display emotions at all. She is incredibly emotionally stunted and has been attending therapy for several years to cope with her depression. She is very melancholy by nature, opting to distract herself with work to resist the troublesome intrusive thoughts that frequently plague her. Even still, she offers a hand of kindness to those dear to her, attempting to be supportive and proving to be quite the wise woman from her many years of experience. She is surprisingly gentle and warm, though one can easily tell that she is weighed by sadness. Though she’s very successful, Celeste does not feel satisfied with her lot in life and is still seeking out her purpose for being.
