Piper’s story begins in Northern Territory, Australia. Born near Alice Springs, Piper and her two brothers were the first litter from her mother. Their father was a vindictive drunk who had fled his home in Namibia after making enemies with a particularly nasty crime syndicate running the region. He left from Cape Town and moved to the country after, meeting his mother fresh off the boat ride. She was charmed by him and his practiced flirting and the two eloped after just a year before having Piper and her siblings. Their father turned out to be a violent drunk who regularly took out his frustrations on his children and wife. Their mother did little to protect them and as a result, Piper and her two brothers grew very close and very protective of one another. They learned early on how to care for themselves and stay under the radar. 

When they turned 13, just as they were getting settled and figuring out plans for the future, they had a new struggle dropped into their laps. Their mother had her second litter of kits with their father. Shortly after their birth, he disappeared. Their mother grew somehow even more vacant and it took Piper and her brothers a very short while to understand what would need to happen. Without hesitation, Jamie dropped out of school to stay home and take care of them full time. The three cycled with raising their siblings together. When they were 16, Pig followed suit on dropping out, picking up two jobs to help support them and encouraged Piper to stay in school. Around this time, their mother was admitted to a hospital for mental health crisis. Her sister was supposed to take over caring for the children but she never showed up. Rather, both of their parents disappeared and never came home from the hospital.

With their situation growing desperate, Piper toed the line of legality and got her and her brothers fake IDs and forged documents so that they could expand their work opportunities. Unfortunately, they were denied higher paying jobs and paid below living wages due to their non-human status. The three of them ended up bouncing between jobs, always working at least two at a given time in an attempt to pay for housing. When Piper turned 18, neither their mother nor their father were anywhere to be found but the third litter of their siblings was delivered at their door to be cared for by their aunt who never showed up either. Finally, they realized that they were stretched thin and ended up letting the house foreclose in favor of moving to an abandoned home nearby instead. The home was marginally smaller, dilapidated, and living conditions for 13 people were far from ideal, yet they made it work. Even combined, they did not have very much money, but they managed to get by feeding everyone and keeping the kids blissfully unaware that they were any different from their other friends. Piper took up work doing a multitude of jobs from mechanica work, to cooking, to playing music on the side and continuing to help her two brothers raise the kids. She became a veritable jack of all trades. However, being run out of jobs so many times left opportunities scarce after a while. So, when she was 25, Piper decided to apply for a job in the Australian military and at a good time too. Just a year later, the fourth litter arrived.

Early in her enlistment, Piper found herself staying relatively close to home and able to send her checks directly to her family. She stuck around to care for them and watched them grow up. She continued to be very attentive and loving towards her family and even enjoyed military life a fair bit. However, the strain of a growing collection of family to care for was felt hardm, even as the second litter began developing a sense of understanding for their circumstances and began trying to help. Additionally, political reservations against Myths became more intense, and Piper saw the writing on the wall. She began doing lucrative and legally dubious work on the side to help with funds, as well as create connections. The money caused her to switch lanes entirely and leave the military just a few years later. She was kicked out of the RAN and joined the Fantasmal Forces, but left due to inadequate pay and benefits.

The end of her military career saw her fall into work with a major international crime syndicate. She dabbled in smuggling and became the captain of a ship in good time. Her travels on the high seas caused her to stay away from her family for long periods, and though it broke her heart, she found that she was able to finally support them with adequate funds in doing so. Both of her brothers were worried about her and afraid she’d get in with the wrong people, but Piper did her best to reassure them all the same. At age 30, Piper heard word that the fifth and last litter had arrived. It was the largest litter yet, and shortly after, they received word that their mother had passed away from unknown causes. They were skeptical of this, but Piper still felt deeply saddened all the same. All the same, Piper’s brothers were left to care for twenty-two siblings in three bedroom one bathroom home in the middle of the wild Australian bush. Even with the first litter now 17 and able to help contribute, she knew they were going to be struggling and floundering. She took a desperate dive and took a more direct approach in her line of work.

Piper is 35 now. She has siblings back home she’s never even met. More than anything, she wants to be done with smuggling, drug-running, trafficking, and bounty-hunting. She wants to lay down arms and go home. But until she has made enough money to know that her family will be safe and stable, she’ll swallow the pain and take any job handed to her.

Despite the profession she has taken up, Piper falls far from the crude, brutal, and unforgiving demeanor displayed by most criminals sharing her profession. By default she is a very friendly and nurturing person with a penchant for conversation and entertainment. Her deep love of music and storytelling has stuck with her throughout the years and she’s often one to enthrall others with her “Disney Princess-esque” voice as her brothers describe it, or tales of her many adventures on land, in the air, and on the high seas. She devours books and loves exploring the world. She especially loves learning about the rich histories of places and occasionally venturing into historical sights. She collects relics to preserve and display in a case in her ship. The wildlife also tends to fascinate her and she finds herself trying hard to study the native animals when they’re not trying to tear her apart. Her unending wanderlust and insatiable curiosity often mean trouble tends to find her without her meaning to, and Piper has earned a few scars as a result, but she largely enjoys the stories that come with the marks. Many of them have been inked into her flesh to remind her of all the lessons she’s learned in her short life.

Despite being largely open and friendly, her true personality remains hidden behind the rough and domineering facade she’s been trained to wear in the “male-dominated” profession of being an infamous little ciminal. She is rarely seen in uniform without barking orders and making serious threats to get physically aggressive with the men around her if she finds their level of productivity not satisfactory. Even the brief moments of “tough love” kindness she occasionally offers should not be taken for granted either. The mask she wears comes to her thanks largely in part to the badger part of her genetics making sudden switches to aggression very easy. This type of behavior is both encouraged and reinforced by the fact the men around her seem to be able to sense weakness and have their own sick desires and expectations that they would gladly try to push on her given the chance. Despite the odds being stacked against her, and as small, chipper and unassuming as Piper may seem, she is far from helpless. She has proven her worth and she will gladly prove it again. She has a very easy time taking down enemies much larger than her and challenging people that seem to have the upperhand. Between her military training and years of experience, Piper has become a masterful tracker and an even more masterful manipulator. She’s notoriously good at charming people around her and presenting a compelling facade to earn their trust, persuading people to follow her around and “off the cliff”. For this, she’s often known as the Pied Piper in the criminal underworld.

When charm and cunning fail, Piper proves her salt with weapons, unadulterated speed, and pure power. Whatever her military training didn’t cover, her batshit insane badger genes certainly did. She’s lithe and agile, and paired with a mastery over her center of gravity and a muscular physique, Piper is a vicious opponent in hand-to-hand combat. Knives are preferred for close-quarters but she’s just as content with biting and clawing the hell out of an opponent with her bare hands. Bows and traps tend to be her specialty however. Having been a tremendous sniper during her military career, Piper is regarded highly for being a vigilant sentinel over her territory. Tying into her love of hunting, Piper has a keen sense for tracking things down and finding patterns of behavior which allow her to set traps on unsuspecting animals. And people. Furthermore, Piper has a special hidden talent: explosives. She’s mastered the craft of balancing chemicals and creating devastating explosives. Not that she gets to use them all that often. However, the few times she has walked about with them and left a path of destruction in her wake has earned her the nickname the “Outback Terror”.

Aside from the usual work expected of freelance mercenary, Piper is a go-to technician for power issues, weapon maintenance and and repairs. The perks of being an overworked and parentified child is that Piper is a completely self-sufficient jack of all trades and a fast learner for anything she doesn’t know off the top of her head. In her downtime - as little of that as she gets - she likes messing around with her instruments, listening to music, collecting trinkets, cooking, learning about local culture, reading lots of books, writing poems and songs, and calling her family to check in with them as often as she can. She also enjoys occasionally smoking weed, playing card games, and running a small makeshift casino out of one of the rooms in the lower deck of her ship. She’s liked by very few and truly known by fewer. In truth, Piper is little more than a family woman who was forced to leave home to provide for a family she ended up raising because her parents couldn’t be bothered. Even still, she is compassionate, adventurous, feisty, confident and has a kind heart– even if she’s forced to cover it up to avoid becoming part of the products she helps oversee by embracing the traits of the one person she vows to never become like: her father.

• Having come to the West Coast after the last Corpo War and because the market for smuggling on Rook dried up, Pipe finds herself working as a skilled merc for various entities. She's all too happy to klep information, cybernetics, and weapons and she has no ties to anyone. Paired with her "unique" abilities, Piper's a fixer's dream merc - as long as they're willing to pay.

• Piper works as a freelancer doing odd jobs - including the more illicit kind. She’s a long way from home, scraping together whatever money she can and barely grappling with the struggles of her past and these strange abilities that seem to come and go at random.

FAR CRY 3: ISLAND LIVING

• Piper works as a Privateer on the southern island. She manages the Privateers to the best of her abilities and just tries to get by in hopes of making enough money to eventually leave the island. In the interim, she’s one of, if not the only female privateer in Hoyt’s ensemble, and she runs a tight ship to avoid being harassed by the boys she works with. She’s regarded as being one of Hoyt’s finest men.

FAR CRY 3: NEVER SUNNY ON ROOK ISLAND

• A verse created with @unrclypirxte: Piper works as Privateer on Rook Island. During her time there, she’s grown quite close with a Pirate named Beth, and gotten into a secret relationship with another Privateer named Matthew. But things are never sunny on Rook Island, and neither these three nor anyone else they associate with are ever more than just one strong breeze away from chaos.

FAR CRY 4: ON HIS MAJESTY’S SECRET SERVICE

• Having been transferred to Kyrat as part of a business deal between Hoyt and Pagan, Piper spends her days working in the Kyrati Palace doing everything from guard work to helping oversee field operations and fighting off wild animals.

• Piper relocates to Hope County for a freelance job opportunity, only to get caught up in the civil insurrection of Joseph's cult.

ROCK BOTTOM

• Following the end of Piper's work on Rook Island, she returns home to Australia and to her family. She stays with them for a while, helping the last of her siblings grow up and leave the nest. Having spent her entire life caring for them however, Piper experiences an identity crisis of sorts. She has no goals, no ambitions, and no prospects of her own. Without the motivation providing for her family, she spirals and spends the next three years going off and engaging in risky and reckless behavior, including meeting up with strangers, drinking excessively, and bouncing from place to place trying to scrape out any sense of pleasure she can find.

STAR WARS: STARBOUND BADGEBUN

• Having mostly survived and made a living doing odd jobs and freelance work, Piper’s willing to undertake any task for the right price. Her main jobs are smuggling and bounty hunting- something made easier by the fact that she seems to be force-sensitive. Though her abilities come and go without the refinement or training of a Jedi, she has enough of a handle on them to get by generally speaking.

STRANGER THINGS: STRANGE BUN IN A STRANGE LAND

• Fresh out of school and not making nearly enough money at home, Piper hopes on the first flight she can to the US and ends up in Hawkins working her own freelance business to make money to send home. On the more Mythic-friendly side of town, she leases a large strip mall property where she runs a "legitimate" mechanic shop as her main work, sells skateboards and accessories on the side, and rents out the extra rooms and spaces to people for tabletop games and parties.

SUPERHERO VERSE: POWERSURGE PROTECTOR

• Piper used to get by doing shady, under-the-table jobs to provide for her family at home, until an accident at a powerplant she was meeting up at led to her getting super-charged with some new superpowers. Now she's Jumpstart - the energetic, lightning-fast, supercharged bunny-badger with a shocking twist to her electrifying personality. She's hardly a hero though. She put her abilities wherever the money is. And when she's not doing that, she's flipping burgers to make ends meet... because the crime sure doesn't pay.

SPECIAL VERSE - World in the Palm of Your Hand

• Piper begins an under-the-table relationship with Hoyt and facilitates a global alliance with several organizations across the world, include Pagan Min's eastern empire, Laverne Alba and Trevor Philips' north American monopoly, and an international deep web organization headed by a man named Adam.

SPECIAL VERSE - Nuclear Family

• Piper works with Octavia to gives homes to children in the Commonwealth and occasionally helps the Railroad lead newly escaped synths to safety.

THE WORLD IS CALLING

• A follow-up to the Rock Bottom timeline verse and the canon ending for Piper; after being contacted by her old friend Holly and explaining her situation, Piper goes off to travel the world with her old friend and makes a full recovery. She and Holly end up getting married and she spends her life helping her wife run her repair shop, taking the summers to travel and visit her family in Australia again.

• Piper's legal name is Piper Christophina Bagley. However, she prefers the name Piper Christophina Harper - taking her surname in honor of her grandfather, Brisbane Harper. She hasn't had the chance to change it formally though.

• Piper’s ship in named The Shockwave.

• Piper did not get her ears or tail grafted like most mythics do. Therefore it is easy to tell she is not human.

• In Myth culture, being a hybrid, or a mix of two different species, is already quite frowned upon. However, being a hybrid of a carnivore and an herbivore means that Piper is especially scorned for existing. She is viewed as being "unstable" and "damaged" by default, and is used to being called various derogatory terms, including a mutt, mongrel, half-breed, farragot, melangit, and miskagene.

• Piper identifies mostly with her Australian heritage since she grew up in Australia.

• Piper is virtually immune to poisons and venom thanks to her badger blood.

• Additionally, Piper proves incredibly resilient from stab and gunshot wounds and the effects of adrenaline last far longer on her.

• As a guardian, Piper cannot be killed unless the object her life force is tethered to is destroyed. Said object is a sturdy crystal with lightning trapped inside it. She does not know she is a guardian, nor that the crystal is what maintains her life, but she is insanely protective of it. 

• Because Piper is unaware that she is a guardian, she also has no idea of or control over her guardian abilities. Her control is over all things related to electricity and nature, such as storms, floods, power grids, and lights. As a result of her lack of control, Piper has only ever entered her guardian form once and it was done to defend her family. She has no memory of the event.

• Piper’s guardian abilities allow her to heal others. She doesn’t know how to control it, but she can.

• Piper does not show outward intimidation to many things, even if they do scare her.

• Piper is prone to become very impulsive when angry.

• Piper is a very different person on the job than she is off of it. If she’s in uniform, expect her to be very aggressive and spare very little room for kindness that isn’t of the “tough love” variety. If she’s not, she tends to be far more mellow and friendly.

• Piper’s hair changes color based on the seasons. During the spring, summer, and most of autumn, her hair is a black color that develops a red sheen to it in certain lighting. During the winter and early spring months, it turns a pale white color and has a shiny grayish-purple gleam to it. It may appear red or blonde as it shifts from one color to the other.

• Her hair also grows very quickly during winter, wanting to get long like her winter coat. She ends up having to trim it every two weeks. She prefers to keep it short however, as she has a tendency to shed. A lot. To help Piper has an undercut that she maintains.

• Similar to her hair, Piper’s coat changes in her animal form too. During the summer she looks more like a honey badger. During the winter, the darker coloration recedes and lightens and she looks more like a European badger. During the spring and fall, her coat is an even mix of the two.

• Piper’s claws are partially retractable.

• Piper’s tail wags when she hugs people. Even if she’s not fond of the person or the circumstances, it’s just a reflexive response on her Rabbit-half’s part. Affectionate contact of any kind makes her tail wag.

• Her typical replacement for kisses are forehead touches and cheek rubs. They represent the bonds between family and lovers. As a result, Piper conveys her deep love, adoration, and trust for people through forehead touches. To receive such a contact from her is a gift really. (That’s not to say Piper doesn’t love kisses though— she loves kisses!)

• Piper has a habit of chewing on things. Oral fixation is a major trait of most rabbitfolk. It’s the main reason why she doesn’t smoke— she’d just end up chewing on the cigarette/cigar. She’s learned that she can chew on tea leaves or gum and she often uses those to treat it.

• She also doesn’t smoke (tobacco or vapes)  because she appreciates her lung capacity for running.

• Piper is an excellent tracker. She’s especially great at following scents, even if they’re weeks old.

• Piper has an intense fear of drowning. She’s a strong swimmer and doesn’t have a fear of water per se, but drowning is one of her greatest fears. (She has a story all about why that she rarely tells.)

• Piper has been pronounced clinically dead for 7 minutes in the past.

• Piper can rock a lot of aesthetics. Some of her favorites include: pastel/candy girl aesthetic, pure white aesthetic (featuring silver jewelry, lacy stockings, and silk dresses), punk/rock biker aesthetic (she even cut her brow and had piercings at some point to go with the chains, boots, ripped jeans and leather jacket), comforting Western/Aussie aesthetic (featuring a cowboy hat, bandana, and cowboy boots with steel toes and spurs), and the goth aesthetic (she rarely has the chance to go all out, so this one mostly features her black eyeliner, dark glittery eyeshadows, and dark lipsticks.) She’s not limited to these either.

• For every happy story she has, Piper has a sad one too. Despite being only 35, she’s experienced a lot of things that have shaped her personality, her perception of herself, and her outlook on life as a whole. Her stories and sense of humor have become an outlet and a coping mechanism for the stress of it. Part of the reason she likes telling her stories so much is also so others will learn from her mistakes.

• Piper is very much the “prepared for anything” type. She carries a duffel bag wherever she goes and has just about everything in there. First aid kid, weapons, navigational devices, spare batteries, change of clothes, ten days worth of food and water, survival kit, soaps and toothbrushes— everything.

• Speaking of weapons, Piper has her personalized weaponry. She has a heavily modified sniper rifle leftover from her military days. She uses it fairly often and it’s her baby. It’s served her well as her pride and joy, seen off many would-be intruders and it’s called The Cavalry. She has an M1911 (also customized, called My Little Friend), two custom knives she made herself (which she calls Stab and Jab), and a whip her grandfather made for her named Lassie.

• In addition to naming her weapons, Piper’s named her arms Sugar and Spice.

• Piper likes hiking and mountain climbing..

• Piper’s favorite drink is apple juice. Like… the tiny little juice box Apple juices. She will inhale five in one sitting. She also really likes coconut milk and coconut water. And papaya.

• By nature, Piper expresses most of her emotions through physical contact. Hugging, cuddling, holding people close, play-fighting, and nuzzling are big parts of how she communicates. However, she’s incredibly hesitant to show any of this affection, even with people she trusts outside of her family. She has a very strong fear of rejection and will try to keep her distance from people as much as possible.

• Piper’s confidence, quick wit, and domineering personality are the result of having to be a parent to her siblings and working amongst mercenaries. However, she also has a very tender side. She’s very comforting, gentle, a good listener, and does her best to help people work through their problems. This is inspired by the fact that she had to raise basically all of her siblings, and unlike her father, she did not at all believe in yelling at them or corporal punishment. She took the very understanding and empathetic learning route with them, leading to her being great at the whole “therapist talk” approach. Her whole life has been balancing soft love with strength and role-modeling.

• A big part of Piper’s life and one of the major motifs she carries with her is music. She’s dedicated a lot of her free time to learning how to play as many instruments as she can— her main ones are guitar, piano, violin, and flute. Music is something very important to her because it served as a comfort and motivator when she needed it most. Chances are if Piper’s doing something, she’s got one earbud in or her headphones on while she’s doing it. She doesn’t have a preference for any one genre either.

• Piper’s doesn’t just listen to and make music. She dances and dances well. She mostly learned from watching videos how to waltz, tango, belly dance, breakdance, pole dance, and freestyle. (Sidenote: her favorite game is Just Dance. She’s never actually played it but… she’s memorized most of the dances by watching videos online).

• Piper isn’t fond of her middle name. In her mind, Christophina is a bit of a mouthful and not very fitting. She’s also not fond of it because she knows her father picked it for her. She doesn’t even like shortening it to Chrissie or Chris. She just prefers to pretend it doesn’t exist at all. The only times she’s used it is to cosplay as a man named Chris for the sake of being respected.

• Piper’s closest family relationship aside from her siblings was with her grandparents on her mother’s side. Her grandmother was super sweet and doting and her grandfather was super fun and taught her and her siblings a lot. She only got to see them a handful of times before their father cut them off from them completely.

• Piper generally doesn’t have a lot of good standing with other Mythics. For starters, being a mixed breed mythic of two completely different species is rare and incredibly frowned upon in most circles. Secondly, the two species she’s known as have very negative attitudes towards them: badgers are remarked as being dangerously aggressive and unwelcome in most places, and rabbitfolk are viewed as being very low on the social ladder for the fact that they are such commonly helpless prey animals (and also the idea they’re promiscuous). She’s not as low as the Axie family, but she’s certainly within throwing distance of them. She got a lot of flack for this when she was younger, and she considered getting ear and tail grafts to try and hide it better. But no one supported her decision and she didn’t have the money, so she just grins and bears it. She struggles were her identity and sense of self worth for it though. She is quite literally the outcasts’ outcast.

• Piper’s nails grow at a very fast rate. She finds herself trimming and filing them every week. Which is fine, because it gives her the chance to change out her nail polishes frequently too.

• Tw eating disorder: Piper has a push-and-pull relationship with food. She needs to eat quite a bit every day to account for metabolism, but she often finds it difficult to meet that goal and stay healthy. She’s incredibly used to eating small amounts so that others have more. What started out as a habit turned into something far worse and while for the most part, she stays on track, upsets and random bouts of inexplicable emotional waves cause Piper to cut back on food entirely or almost entirely for days at a time.

• Piper’s favorite flowers are peonies. Pink ones especially.

• Piper dyed her hair. Once. She’s never doing it again, that’s for sure.

• Piper loves scented soaps and perfumes. The girl regularly orders in bulk from Bath and Body Works because she loves the scents. She’s also stolen clothing from men and women in the past because she loves the smell of men’s cologne and women’s perfume.

• Pulling on Piper’s ears is a deathwish.

• If you pet her/run your fingers through her hair for long enough Piper will fall asleep.

• Piper tends to sleep on her belly or side. She doesn’t make a sound usually, but sometimes she’ll sleep-talk or kick out in her sleep.

• Piper is very cuddly and warm. Given the opportunity, she will seek out the chance to snuggle up to someone and fall asleep against them. Either as a person, or as a badgebun.

• Piper is ticklish. Light brushes against her sides, neck, or her tummy are liable to earn someone a kick if they sneak up on her.

• There is a significant difference between how Piper writes and talks.

• Piper thumps and she thumps loud. Regardless of the material she is standing on, the sound will reverberate and travel a great distance. This is because the bones of Rabbitfolk feet are solid at the heel and along the flat and much thicker than most species. Their tendons and bones have a thicker layer of synovial fluid at the joints their leg bones in particular (which are also much thicker than the rest of their bones) are shielded by a sponge-like layer of connective tissue that absorbs the powerful shock from the impact. They throw down their heels followed by an even and firm slap of the flats of their feet to created a loud thump! 

• Piper mostly thumps to convey displeasure or fear. When she’s upset, she tends to thump occasionally until she is acknowledged or the problem bothering her is taken care of. Fearful thumping is a repetitive act. She thumps numerous times in a motion similar to how humans shake their legs to warn others that there is danger. It is also used to alert the danger that it has been spotted and that she is aware of its presence. The sound and the energetic motion act as a deterrent. The goal is to get any would-be attacker to chase her so others can get to safety.

• Piper can hiss like a wolverine / badger. Her tail gets all frizzy and she bares her teeth when she does. It’s a terrifying sound coming from someone so small and cute and unassuming.

• Piper has trouble regulating her body temperature. This mostly applies to cold weather. Growing up in Australia has allowed Piper to adapt well to hot weather. She is able to regulate her body temperature by flapping her ears or lightly wetting them with a damp cloth. However, much like her mother species, Piper is far less good at keeping warm. If it gets too cold, she loses heat rapidly and will try to stop moving (something she can’t do because she’ll risk freezing to death). In cold weather, warm drinks, earmuffs, and heated clothing is incredibly important for her.

• Piper isn’t a picky eater. She’ll eat whatever you give her (including snakes and bugs— she loves those!) However, she’ll often take fresh food like leafy greens and cooked meat fresh from a hunt over processed and “fast food” if given the choice.

• When she’s excited or otherwise pleased by simple physical contact (headscratches, rubbing noses, cheek nuzzling, ear pets, tickling, etc.) Piper starts lightly thumping.

• Piper relies on body language and touch a lot to convey intimacy. • Piper tends to be an obsessive groomer. She likes to keep things neat and organized for the most part (though when she’s having her monthly heats things tend to look like a hurricane passed through because she makes nests and rolls around without thinking), but she’s very meticulous about things being in order and about her appearance.
