Gan was born in the mountains of Nepal to a loving mother and father stolen away from him too soon by the Ancients War. He was just old enough to begin fending for himself as a guardian and like many Mythics, he was a recluse that avoided humans almost entirely. Almost being the key word. In his thousands of years in the mountains, Gan had garnered many stories of a mysterious spirit that roamed the mountains and the cliffs of nearby villages. He was heralded as a savior from the cold, protecting those lost in poor weather and guiding them back to safety, and stopping many that came to the cliffs with the intent of ending their lives.
At some point, Gan met a woman who persisted in visiting the mountains each day after scattering her family’s ashes from one of the peaks. There she encountered Gan. Over the years the two grew close. They married in secret and had two daughters, but as is often the case with guardians who fall in love with mortals, Gan outlived his partner and his children. While bitter at having to watch them pass, Gan eventually accepted their passings as a natural part of life and made peace with the fact that they were gone. He built a little home by a cliff just beyond a small village in addition to his hidden home in a mountain cave where he often spend his day tending to a garden, watching over the land, protecting the mountains, purifying the waters, and convincing people with the intent of harming themselves to sit with him for tea. He navigates the world by touch and by sound using low-frequency rumbles to navigate his surroundings. He does not let his lack of sight inherently impact his quality of life. Gan is at peace with himself and with his purpose.
By all accounts, Gan is a gentle soul. Passive, reserved and calm, his age has given him wisdom and a mild personality. He is generous and kind. He may be soft-spoken but the words he speaks are often powerful. Gan enjoys his quiet life patrolling the mountains and the little village nestled within them. He spends his days cultivating a garden, making statuettes, and trekking through the snows. Though he cannot see the world around him with his eyes, he will claim that he sees it more than most do with his whiskers, his ears, his hands, and his nose. Gan is very in tune with nature and by extension, he is in tune with his environment. Many of the local village seek him out for knowledge and advice, as he is revered as being an ancient creature. He has earned the respect of both the humans and the Mythics he lives among and h will gladly offer his aid where he can. When Gan is less preoccupied with talking people off the metaphorical and literal cliff or rescuing people from the white outs, he can be found sitting on the front porch of his home absentmindedly strumming old songs on his string instrument or meditating.
Gan’s passive nature should not be mistaken for a lack of strength. Though old and worn he may be, he is neither weak nor helpless. Gan is a snow leopard and a guardian at that. He has mastered control over his domains and he is just as effective a combatant in his old age as he was when he was in his youth. He is a fierce, noble hunter with strength and stealth matched by few other creatures on earth. And he is a fierce protector of all that he holds dear. The village and the mountains are his territory, its inhabitants his to guard and guide. Any threat attempting to vanquish him shall find themselves sooner smited by his claws then find him a simple pelt to be poached. And though he may not be one who prefers violence or combat, he is far from a fool or coward to know when diplomacy is failing him.
