With an alchemist for a mother and a wizard for a father, Amalgamate grew up with a strong focus on intellects. From the moment she could first read, she was hitting books and hitting them hard. She came into the world during a time where Mythics were just being rediscovered in rare and fleeting glimpses and her family decided it was best not to be a part of it, and so they conditioned her to avoid humans and focus on her studies. To their delight, Amalgamate was a receptive and outstanding pupil with a knack for both magic and alchemy. Her mother would often spend hours talking about the different ingredients and their effects, to which Amalgamate would listen in awe and frequently ask questions, which delighted her mother. Her father was most impressed by how quickly she picked up other languages like Latin and runic, how easily she found herself memorizing spells and symbols, and the ways in which she was able to channel the energy of her magic to cast spells and places hexes. As she got older, her grasp on her powers and her intellectual ability only grew, as did her desire to wander. Her parents insisted that Amalgamate shouldn’t wander off, as it could be dangerous. Growing rebellious and stubborn, Amalgamate did so anyway, looking to commune with humans and share her gift. She quickly learned however that witchcraft and the very act of existing as a witch would paint a target on her back for which she would not be able to clear off. This being the time just before the Old Wars, humans were becoming less friendly and more eery towards Myths.
At the age of 20, Amalgamate met a young man who claimed himself the son of the local town's pastor. He was charming and kind and their friendship quickly bloomed into a deep love that they both decided they need to keep secret due to growing suspicions and stigma. One night, when they snuck off to meet in the church, they decided to hold a secret wedding and then consummate their new marriage. From this affair, Amalgamate conceived their son. She went missing after five months when she began to show signs of her pregnancy. She gave birth to their son in the same church they wed in. Upon telling the townsfolk that the father was the pastor's son who she had married they did not believe her, for the pastor said he had no son. When the man she had married returned, he pointed to her saying she was witch who had birthed the antichrist and would kill them all. Amalgamate miraculously managed to escape the mob with her child and ran back to her coven. However, her husband knew where she'd gone and led the mob and the hunters to her coven in the night. She awoke with a start find her little village was in shambles. Buildings crumbled to the ground and people were being tied to stakes and burned for supposed witchcraft. She could only watch as her father and other casters were detained and burned as they tried to put out the fires. Downstairs, she heard her mother screaming for mercy and knowing she had no other choice, Amalgamate tried to climb from her window with her child, only to have the house collapse on her. She watched helplessly from under the rubble as her coven was destroyed before witnessing the men being slaughtered as well. Pinned and unable to tend to ehr crying babe, she watched as his father walked up and revealed himself to be none other than Lucifer. He bid her thanks for bearing his heir, took their child, and promptly vanished. She was trapped in the forest for hours until dawn’s morning light shone down on her and she finally escaped. When she did, there was nothing left but smoldering houses and charred bodies. Her home had been destroyed. She managed to salvage a great many books and some supplies and, with a heavy heart, left the Fabletown behind.
Unlike many Myths, Amalgamate never joined the exodus back to the homeland. She chose to live among humans and blend in as an herbalist and purveyor of medicines while boosting her knowledge and magic skills throughout the years. She lived through the Ancients War believing herself to be too weak to make and real change.
As she grew older and began wandering on her own, Amalgamate began to travel and see Mythics reappearing again. Not long after though, she began to see the same things that happened to her village centuries ago happen again, and realized that what had happened to her village was not an isolated incident. The world was at war again- humans against all mythics, and casters like her were on the Mythic side. Initially, Amalgamate worked as an herbalist, providing food and medicine to Mythics trying to survive in the new war zones created by the conflicts. This time though she eventually enlisted to help treat Mythic troops a medical unit but quickly found that standing on the sidelines was not something she was proud of doing. She began creating posters in her spare time calling for other casters to rise up and join her in the fight. In time, other witches, warlocks, sorcerers, mages, fae, and other spell casters and magic users came forward to join the effort. Amalgamate worked her way up through the ranks and began fighting directly on the frontlines of the war as a seasoned caster. During this peak of her career, she met a wizard by the name of Arnold Engel. The two eloped after several years of fighting together. Unfortunately, Arnold was killed in combat shortly before their son was born. Though Amalgamate did her best to care for her child while also keeping up with her military career, her son, Dietrich, passed away from influenza when he was just a boy. Though she was devastated by the loss, Amalgamate still pushed aside her grief to continue her involvement of the war effort.
Her mastery of magic was known to be legendary, her strategic combat maneuvers ingenious and unmatched. Her crowning achievement was during a particularly critical turning point in the war known as the Battle of the Familiars. Casters ambushed human troops and surrounded them, using familiars to overwhelm them before wiping them out and forcing them to surrender using waves of powerful magic. Though her battle strategy was fearsome, some famously recall that the troops facing the casters surrendered not because of their strength, but because when the waves caused an orphanage to come down, Amalgamate immediately halted the fire and had herself and some casters clear out the rubble, saving all the children and workers of the orphanage just in time. The sight reminded the human soldiers that although Mythics were not the same flesh and blood as them, they had the same drive to survive and the ability to be as kind and true at heart as they did. Her victory signaled a major Mythic victory in Germany and turned the tide of the war in favor of the fables.
Upon the end of the war, Amalgamate received praise for her role in the military as a good and powerful leader, a righteous defender, and a hand of justice. She graciously accepted the titles and retired from her military career. Feeling as though there was nothing left for her in Germany, she moved to America with what little she had and opened a shop known as the Cat’s Cauldron, where she began putting her passion for alchemy and magic to good use selling potions, spells, enchantments, and charms. She continues to devote a large portion of her time to rediscovering the lost information of her people, making new breakthrough in alchemical sciences, and providing helpful advice and solutions to people visiting her with problems and seeking answers.
Though the years have been a bit more unforgiving towards her body, Amalgamate remains a wild and free-spirited woman at heart. Many recognize her as a fun, adventurous lady with a passion for her craft and great amount of wisdom to bestow on any curious visitors of her shop. She offers firm but loving guidance to those that seek her out and offers words of warning to those looking to use her magic for less than savory purposes. Her gentle disposition should not be mistaken for helplessness however. Amalgamate is more than capable of handling herself. Magic runs freely through her and in addition to being able to conjure weapons, familiars, and other spells which she can use to defend herself, she is well-versed in the art of using runes and enchantments to protect herself and her shop against any would-be trespassers. Her motherly nature has allowed to grow quite chummy with the locals of her new home and she is often visited by friends in her shop.
If she’s not busy brewing new potion batches or organizing her books in the back of her shop, Amalgamate is likely tending to her garden of odd and exotic plants, or out venturing to meet new people and gain new knowledge from other casters who share her thirst for intellect and seek to salvage the teachings of witches like herself that were lost in the wake of destruction from the Mythic War. Amalgamate is constantly wanting to know more about her people, something she never got the chance to do when she was younger due to the pressures and the ongoing conflicts of the world around her. She keeps herself busy with work and finds herself studying whenever possible in hopes of gaining the satisfaction of being able to debunk the many myths that surround witches, and perhaps even venture out on some adventures of her own before age catches up with her and she’s forced to rely on temporary youth potions to do anything.
