[08:26] Spiff (spiff.whitfield): I think those that love SL love, love SL and weren't looking for a VR Replacement or addition. VR platform should be a dynamic new environment that is "different" in scope and promotion.

[08:31] jamesmccrary: $$$ is a concern. A lot of the platforms in VR social have already positioned themselves. Not sure there is enough room unless they offer something dramatically different with feature sets, such as greater cross platform.

[08:33] OliveTree Lighthouse: giving the word to students to talk about their experiences in VR

[08:34] jamesmccrary: Daniel and crew are doing a pretty good job.

[08:34] jamesmccrary: Had 700+ concurrent and upwards of 2K during the event

[08:35] OliveTree Lighthouse: I just feel that they're not very interested in exploring other things

[08:35] OliveTree Lighthouse: tried to talk to some of them about SL and Opensim but didn't feel they were very receptive

[08:36] OliveTree Lighthouse: yes the conference was impressive although I couldn't see the slides or the videos at all :(

[08:37] OliveTree Lighthouse: I could only see and hear the people in avatars. but not the screens

[08:37] jamesmccrary: They are learning these platforms aren't equipped to do what is needed. It is why we typically use Engage. Everyone sees the same unique assets in real time.

[08:38] jamesmccrary: I think Daniel and Lorelle are learning on the fly. Daniel has been in VR for about a year or so while Lorelle is brand new.

[08:39] jamesmccrary: We did our sessions for that conference in Engage. It was awesome!

[08:39] jamesmccrary: We have a show debuting in about a month.

[08:41] jamesmccrary: I also think they are focusing heavy on presence in HMD, even though those platforms have desktop versions as well.

[08:43] jamesmccrary: I think that may be where this virtual line of demarcation may be.

[08:43] jamesmccrary: The focus of HMD in education is a broad continuum.

[08:45] Spiff (spiff.whitfield): I'm not pessimistic about it... just impatient, hehe

[08:46] jamesmccrary: Low entry point with 3DoF for presence to hijack the hippocampus for learning through exposure, HQ 3DoF for doing the same for experience, and fully interactive 6DoF for learning skillsets. RN, its an augmentation to the learning experience. Not sure it is something that is feasable on a classroom scale just yet...mainly due to access and traditional class models.
