Currently looking at how to conduct the pilot program at Bayside in a virtual or hybrid format. Lots of questions
Working on building community partnerships to help make this program a success. I have a list of organizations we will be reaching out to including Camp Grom and VB Parks and Rec Centers
Update: Project was fully funded and all at home learners in my Adapted PE Class have equipment that we use every day to conduct class
What I learned during the last 4 months of this school year, and working in a digital environment, is my current Adapted Physical Education students (Who will participate in the Unified HPE Class) do not have access to the equipment at home that is necessary to help improve their fitness and mental and emotional health. The items on my Wishlist will be used for my Adapted PE students and added to their "Take Home PE Packs" so they are able to continue their physical activity throughout the year. This will give every student their own equipment and allow us to work on their very individual needs regardless of our situation as we head back to school in the fall. These items are important to work on their fine and gross motor skills, endurance, and dexterity.
Rec Center has agreed to continue our partnership and expand to include elective classes in the fall
Transportation is the only issue we have to making this a reality
Since students have been tracking this data all year, Jenn continued with it into her ELP and it has been fascinating to see the data collected and compare it with when the students were in school
Results certainly indicate that teachers can do a better job of listening to and checking in with their students, especially as they transition into high school
Our return to school (whenever that may be in the fall) will pose a lot of social and emotional barriers that we need to be prepared to deal with. With an App like this we can start students off correctly and put measures in place right away based off of this year’s data
UPDATE:
Met with Allison Bock in Planning and Innovation
Went through data and have put together some charts and organized data. Some really neat discoveries and even more of a reason to push for creating our App so we can really hone in on certain aspects.
Allison has agreed to help with the next part which is coming up with the proper questions to get the info I want
Working with https://www.7cups.com/ to create customized learning pathways students can follow independently, connecting with a trained counselor as needed.
Working with other high schools interested in a similar project to re-launch a leadership course in 2021-2022
A possible way ahead is to have different aspects of these classes offered at different high schools taught by a variety of teachers. Students could be transported to various schools depending on the pathway they choose.
Allowing students choice in a learning pathway will result in much more buy in. Having a variety of teachers with a variety of backgrounds, interests, talents and connections in the area will serve the students very well
