PAHSs We the People competition (a mock trial of sorts, judged by local stakeholders like lawyers and government teachers) was scheduled for the week after schools closed down. This team had the project ready to go within their own school and joined the innovation squad in order to scale beyond the school into a division-wide or even regional competition. We the People is not currently being used in any Hampton Roads schools. Virginia Civics has a keen interest in developing a cohort in the area and the idea was to implement the project at PAHS, invite others to attend, then host a division-wide meeting of government teachers in early summer to provide training and information.

Ashley is interested in transforming her leadership course. She has already made strides to change the curriculum and has had some success, but she would like to add an internship/work experience component where students develop personal projects and pursue them as a second level to her course. She sees this potentially linked to the expansion of whole-school MYP being implemented at PAHS. Changes in the format of the leadership course may facilitate the personal project making it accessible to all PAHS students.

Monica has an idea for a transformed schedule that operates on a 5 day rotation of A-B-A-B-C. C days would be reserved for extension projects (on a rotating basis) for A and B courses, advisory, enrichment, remediation and options for “master classes” taught by community members. A similar project was in place years ago after the fire and faded away and she thinks the time is right to reintroduce it.
