"Are you interested in challenging the status quo, seeking creative solutions and learning from failure in service of re-imagining an education system where all students are inspired and equipped to realize their full potential? If so, we invite you to apply (as an individual or as a group) in partnership with your school leadership for your 'intent to innovate'!"
In January 2020, the staff of Virginia Beach City Public Schools received an innovation to dream big and identify ideas, new or years in the making, that could make the school system a better place. This site is dedicated to describing these works in progress- in the form of "innovation squads".

Combined Courses
This squad is focused on combining traditional HS courses into a single course, such as Algebra and Oceanography, to capitalize on the interdisciplinary nature of learning and to maximize student scheduling
From a Unified PE course for regular education and their special education peers to scaling e-sports throughout the school day, our high school projects re-imagine the secondary school experience in new ways
Thinking Beyond Content Skills
This squad is carefully considering what students need to know beyond the core curriculum- as leaders, interns, and skilled learners in a variety of settings
Leveraging Technology for SEL
These projects are using technical solutions to address Social-Emotional needs in a variety of ways- from podcasting to VR
