Participation in the Psychiatry Student Interest Group (PsychSIG) provides students with opportunities to enhance their medical education at UWSMPH through psychiatry-focused learning experiences. Each semester, students will meet three to four times with psychiatrists and psychiatry residents in panel, presentation, or discussion formats to explore the field, its subspecialties, and the exciting clinical work and research taking place on campus.
We encourage students to gain exposure to diverse subspecialties of psychiatry—such as Child/Adolescent, Geriatric, Forensic, Addiction, Sleep, and Sports Psychiatry—and hope to provide information and guidance on excelling in medical school, obtaining research experience (e.g., Shapiro Program), and preparing for a residency in psychiatry. Opportunities for mentorship and professional development will be offered to help students connect with physicians and experts in the field.
