Beyonce Vuong
Personal Description
My name is Beyonce and I’m a third-year electrical engineering student. I’ve been a part of the ECSS since my first year at UVic, going from Social Media Coordinator to becoming VP of Communications for 1.5 years. I’m looking forward to engaging new students in clubs and the student society early on in their academic careers and further strengthening relationships between the clubs. Through my experiences on council, I feel capable of running the student society as its president and bringing forward new ideas.
Point Form Summary of Platform Description
First Year Engagement: The future of the student body relies on how first years start at UVic. As a new student, some struggle to make connections and learn about services. Although engagement has improved, with feedback from first years, there’s more room for growth.
September Welcome: I want to run a welcome where clubs have the opportunity to do workshops with new students to introduce their club to them and foster community.
Feedback Surveys: The ECSS has run feedback surveys for general student opinions before. I want to collect feedback after events, such as UVEC, EEE, and the charity events to hear what should be improved. I want to discuss with the previous council about things that were improved and what needs improvement.
Accessibility: As VP Communications, I created accessibility icons to advertise accommodations provided at all events and in the lounge. I want to push for more accessible events and services for students. When we offer food, I want gluten-free and vegetarian options to be available. When running events, theyshould all be designed to accommodate wheelchair accessibility and low mobility. The ECSS already does an excellent job, but there can be improvement and earlier planning.
Planning Ahead: The first thing I will do is create a strategic plan for the entire year with the council. I will support the rest of the council and executive team to ensure we all meet our goals and not suffer from burnout with task trackers and checking in often with members.
