ATF: WINTERTIDE
In 2071, a nuclear war devastated the world. The exact number of casualties is unknown, but the chaos that followed resulted in even more deaths. For the past 90 years, the post-flash world has been controlled by bandits, mutants, and militias. In 2162, there are two islands in Lake Erie called Sunrise Islands, just north of mainland Ohio, where a new story is unfolding. North Island is mostly controlled by the USRF and a few bandit groups, while South Island is home to a variety of factions, including the Alumni and mutant survivors. Bargetown, a floating town built on a barge, is located in the middle of these two islands. This is the story of Lake Erie.
THE FLASH
Before the flash, the world was generally peaceful. While much of the history before the flash is unknown to most people in the post-flash world, some key events are still remembered. Territories across the planet were annexed by clashing countries, Africa experienced an economic boom, the possibility of humanoid AI became realistic, and space elevators were constructed. The U.S. was generally isolationist and peaceful until the 2060's, when a "dirty nuke" was detonated in San Francisco, leading the U.S. to become vengeful and imperialist. This, coupled with the war in China, ultimately resulted in a nuclear war in 2071, which is often referred to as World War 3. Some people believe the war started in Africa or after an economic collapse in East Asia, while others have conspiracy theories and blame other populations for the conflict.

THE STORY SO FAR...
ACT 0 | THE PROLOGUE, DECEMBER 18, 2161
HICOMM signed off on a USRF expedition to South Sunrise Island, an area previously foreign to the USRF Lakeside Division. The 1st Expeditionary Rifle Battalion was deployed to undertake the mission at hand, the goal of which was to map out the island and learn more about the factions who live there. Over the next year, this expedition team made Monorail-1 their home away from home, an outpost situated at an old monorail station near a quarry. During this time, a number of operations were undertaken against the likes of the Voyageurs and other belligerent groups hostile to NEU forces. The mission ended a year later when all operational objectives were checked off. The expedition team soon returned to the Black Mountain Complex.
ACT 1 | OPERATION CLEAR SKY, APRIL 16th, 2163
HICOMM signed off on another USRF expedition to South Island, which was once again to be conducted by the 1st Expeditionary Rifle Battalion to establish a FOB at Lake Erie Power. The intentions of the mission was to establish their presence in the area and to locate reported Voyageur supply caches in the area. Over the next few months, the situation for the 1st Expeditionary Rifle Battalion had gone downhill, as many major casualties were taken. These casualties included the deaths of Lieutenant Dupis and Brigg, the two leading commanders of the unit, and many other high-ranking individuals. The mission ended at the Omniport, where a retreat was called by command, back to the Black Mountain Complex. The catastrophic failure of the mission resulted in the 1st Expeditionary Rifle Battalion sent to the Southern Theater, as they were no longer deemed fit to serve in the region.

ACT 2 | OPERATION RED RISING, JULY 21, 2163
What started off as a small FLA investigation turned into a bloodbath in a small town, and the start of something even more sinister. Bridgetown, a small settlement located on the North Island Highway, was in a constant battle for influence, involving USRF against an unknown group, which is believed to be behind the mysterious breaches of the Intranet system, ambushes against the USRF on North Island, and the capture of FLA officers. Months went past as USRF/FLA attempted to investigate the secrets of the town, such as who they were being supplied by, and who is really in charge. In the end though, it resulted in the town revolting against the USRF and claimed independence from the Union. However, things took a turn for the worse as the supposed 'Mayor' of Bridgetown was assassinated during a speech after trying to resolve their issues with the USRF and resulted in a heavy gunfight as USRF/FLA attempted to flee the town. To this day, the mystery of the town remains unsolved, alongside with the identities of many town figureheads and the sniper that has terrorized the USRF multiple times.
