The USRF, otherwise known as the Northeastern Armed Forces (NEAF) in formal environments, encompass the collective might and military capabilities of the NEU. Comprised of various branches, including the Reclamation Army, the Homeland Corps, and other specialized branches, the USRF stands as a formidable force, safeguarding the NEU's interests and defending its territories, both domestically and abroad.
RECLAMATION ARMY
The Reclamation Army, as one of the prominent branches within the USRF, plays a crucial role in reclaiming and securing territories previously lost to the ravages of the post-flash world. With their unwavering determination, the soldiers of the Reclamation Army venture into the treacherous wastelands, striving to restore order, rebuild infrastructure, and extend the influence of the NEU. The bulk of the USRF forces currently deployed to the wasteland are Reclamation Army service members, whose training incorporates wasteland survival, combat and other necessary skills a soldier might need to make it through their deployment. The majority of the Lakeside Division is made up of Reclamation Army units.
HOMELAND CORPS
The Homeland Corps represents a vital pillar within the USRF. Tasked with safeguarding the integrity and security of the NEU's established territories, the Homeland Corps plays a pivotal role in maintaining law and order, defending against domestic threats, and addressing internal issues. One of the primary responsibilities of the Homeland Corps is the protection of the NEU's borders. With a focus on border security, their vigilant presence acts as a deterrent to potential threats. They employ a combination of high tech systems, surveillance, and patrolling units to maintain a vigilant watch over the borders, preventing illegal activities and safeguarding the sovereignty of the NEU.
Additionally, the Homeland Corps plays a crucial role in maintaining internal security within the NEU. They work in close coordination with law enforcement agencies, providing support and assistance in dealing with criminal activities, civil unrest, and potential threats to public safety. Their proactive presence helps to deter crime and maintain a sense of security within the NEU's cities and communities. During times of crisis, the Homeland Corps is at the forefront of emergency response efforts. Whether it's natural disasters, civil disturbances, or other emergencies, they are trained to quickly mobilize, coordinate domestic operations, or provide aid to affected areas. Their expertise in disaster management and response ensures that the NEU can effectively mitigate the impact of crises and keep its citizens protected.
FOREIGN LEGION
The USRF Foreign Legion serves as a unique pathway for individuals hailing from states beyond the borders of the NEU to earn their citizenship. While joining the esteemed ranks of the Reclamation Army or Homeland Corps generally requires you to be a law abiding citizen, the Foreign Legion provides an alternative route for those eager to serve and contribute to the nation's cause, with the result being full NEU citizenship upon the completion of their service.
Comprising a diverse range of individuals, the Foreign Legion welcomes both civilians who find themselves thrust into military life and former service members from surrounding nations seeking a fresh start. Drawn from various backgrounds and experiences, these legionnaires come together under a common banner, representing a melting pot of cultures and identities from every corner of the continent. Whether they originate from the Southern states, the expansive landscapes of Texas, the northern territories of Canada, or even people of the Coalition, they find unity and purpose within the ranks of the Foreign Legion.
The legionnaires share a collective aspiration to earn their citizenship through dedicated service. For some, it is an opportunity to leave behind their previous lives and forge a new identity within the NEU. They willingly embrace the challenges and sacrifices that come with military life, driven by the promise of a brighter future and the prospect of becoming full-fledged citizens of the nation they now serve. As members of the Foreign Legion, these individuals contribute their unique skills, perspectives, and experiences to the overall strength and diversity of the USRF. They stand shoulder to shoulder with their Reclamation Army counterparts, forging bonds of camaraderie and brotherhood as they navigate the trials of their shared journey.
FRONTIER DEFENSE FORCES
The Frontier Defense Forces emerged as a consolidation of formerly independent pro-NEU wasteland militias operating within the wasteland. Recognizing the value of their expertise and local knowledge, these resilient militia factions became official units in the NEU's combined armed forces, transforming into a unified and disciplined fighting force dedicated to defending the many frontiers of the NEU.
In the wake of their formal integration into the USRF, the Frontier Defense Forces have been entrusted with the critical task of securing and fortifying the borders of the NEU across multiple fronts, with a primary focus on the SU and the Great Lakes region. These wasteland units, once scattered and operating independently, now operate in a coordinated and organized formation, maximizing their effectiveness in the face of the myriad of threats that lurk in the untamed wasteland.
For many wastelanders who seek to earn NEU citizenship, enlisting into a Frontier Defense Force unit becomes not only a choice but a necessity. The entry examinations and requirements for wastelanders to join the NEU can be equally complex as they are challenging, making the Frontier Defense Forces the primary pathway for them to prove their loyalty and dedication to the NEU. By serving on the frontlines and demonstrating their commitment to the NEU's cause, these individuals strive to earn the coveted citizenship that offers them a chance at a better life.
THE LAKESIDE DIVISION
The Lakeside Division (regularly called the LD) is a mission of the USRF tasked with securing the wasteland region of the Great Lakes. The Lakeside Division houses units of every USRF branch, but is largely made up of Reclamation Army units. Unlike other USRF military missions, the Lakeside Division is trained specifically for wasteland survival, where soldiers have to endure an intensive 5-week survival course in addition to USRF basic training to bring their wasteland knowledge on par with wastelanders who have lived it their entire life. The LD falls under the Douglass Military District and is led by The Director, a shadowy figure whose public appearances are few and far in between.
In addition to securing key wasteland regions, the LD is also in charge of surveying the land for any critical infrastructure, such as power stations, communications networks, water sources and arable land, all to benefit the NEU should the region be taken over by the USRF. Right now the LD has its eyes set on the Lake Erie, which houses a strategic military installation known as Black Mountain and a key access point to the Canadian coast, should the need arise for a renewed invasion of the Canadian Federation. The Lakeside Division is considered to be a "backwater" unit of the USRF, which means they get supplied anything that is left over from the war fighting in the North and South -- which is usually not a lot.
THE BLACK MOUNTAIN GARRISON
The Black Mountain Complex is an old NORAD and Space Force facility on the Sunrise Isles that is shared between a local civilian government and the USRF Black Mountain Garrison. The Black Mountain Complex additionally serves as the headquarters of the entire Lakeside Division. The Black Mountain Garrison encompasses all USRF personnel stationed on the Sunrise Isles, providing security to the complex and operating accross the isles in the name of the NEU.
